I am just trying to grasp the power of Hubitat and I wanted to have a rule that would turn my outdoor lights on at Sunset and off at Sunrise. I have been able to complete that with Motion Lighting. Now I would like to add the twist that when the lights turn on they are at 10% and when motion is detected go to 100% for X mins and then go back to 10%.
It feels like it should be simple, but I am just missing something.
There are probably a few different ways of achieving this, but one may be to look at defining scenes, activating the "10% scene" at sunset, the "100% scene" when motion is detected, and then the "10% scene" when motion is no longer active. The initial setting of the lights to 10% at sunset may need to be handled via a separate RM rule.
Another thing you could look at is the set dimmer level option in the motion lighting app.
I have something similar but different with my Study. It is visible from my living area and hallway, so thought it would be nice to set some ambient lighting on my desk when I leave the room and would have normally just turned the lights off. I have a Hue Go lamp and some battery powered candle-like lights that come on when motion stops. I achieve this using scenes and few other settings, so can share some of that if you get stuck.
I'm new to Hubitat also, and wanted to duplicate the motion-activated high / low function I had in a Heath-Zenith porch light (but driving a porch light and three post lights on the front patio).
I started with plain old lights, no motion sensors, with dimmable LED bulbs. I installed a Kasa smart dimmer switch to control them. For on at sunset and off at sunrise I have two rules. The "Porch on" rule turns the lights on and dims them to 50%. The third rule is a motion sensor that, between sunrise and sunset, sets the light level to 100% for three minutes, then sets it to 50%. Image of that rule is below.
The problem is the motion sensor. The indoor sensors cast too large a motion detection area, so I have to install them low to the ground in an area where motion 20' away - like a car driving by - won't trigger it. But they also get triggered by fog, which we get most evenings. I'm getting a Zooz outdoor motion sensor for lighting I will try out today or tomorrow. If that doesn't work, I'll try a Phillips Hue outdoor motion sensor.
