Just a word of warning, I updated from 135 to 155 today and the hub never came back. I found it on a new IP address (192.168.1.127) though it was unregistered and with no devices.
So, this message is just as a warning for others to not do this update unless you have time to deal with a potential problem. If anyone knows any more it would be good to understand what happened so I have more confidence to try updating again sometime. Good job I had the backup today, the C7 has been 100% since 2022 otherwise though.
Mine updated just fine. One of the reasons the update process warns you to take a backup before performing the update is that things can sometimes go wrong with firmware updates. If you aren't doing this before every update, despite the warning message, then that is more of a gamble than just doing updates.
Also, they recommend reserving a DHCP address in the startup documentation. This isn't something that a firmware update would cause. The MAC address of the hardware won't change and that is handled by your router vs the hub itself.
It sounds like your hub was running with a bad database and the hub attempted to run a Soft Reset before updating but it wasn't successful. Performing the Soft Reset was the right thing to do. You could now go to the Diagnostic Tool and select "restore previous version" then pick 2.4.4.155 from the list. It should be there if the download was successful.
I always reboot with the rebuild database option checked before applying an update, to make sure the hub is happy. I don't go from a month or more of uptime directly to an update.
Thanks for that suggestion Chris, I have to admit I have never never rebuilt the database since 2022. I've found the setting in "Advanced options". Thanks, perhaps that might have prevented the problem
