I have 2 hubs which were working on DHCP. I decided to hardcode the IP and they would not be recognized by Hubitat so while everything locally was working I lost contact with Alexa as the app lost the two hubs. Hubs are now still working locally but i cant get them registered. Every time i go to the portal.hubitat.com the spinning wheel is still spinning no mater what email address i use, etc. Don't know what to do here it has been a few days and the site is still looking for my hubs. As a note when i go to the site on my cell phone and put in the local subnet it finds the two hubs with their new IP instantly and will let me connect but will not let me register...
The first thing I would do is make sure that your static IP settings are correct, especially if you set them on the hub. A common mistake is DNS problems, leaving your hub unable to connect to cloud hostnames. Assuming you have a C-5 or newer hub:
-
Go to Settings > Network Setup, click the Network Test link towards the top
-
Locate the Ping Hostname tool, type
cloud.hubitat.com
(or really any Internet hostname) in the box where it will likely currently say "1.1.1.1" -
Click the Ping button, and wait for (hopefully) a good response (like a few pings and then something like "3 packets sent, 3 packets received, 0% loss," etc.). If you see "Name or service not known" or some other error, there is a problem, likely DNS-related. You can check that for sure by trying an IP address, like the default 1.1.1.1 -- if that works, probably a DNS problem.
If you find some network problem, you know where to start fixing things. (I'd suggest a DHCP reservation on your router instead of a static IP on the hub unless you have a reason to prefer that option, but either way should work if correctly configured. The former just leaves less room for error.)
If you don't, registration should work. The above, particularly a DNS problem, just a common reason it doesn't. In this case, I'm not sure how you're trying to register in the first place, but here is what I would do:
-
Use a private/incognito/etc. browser window.
-
Navigate to the IP address for the hub you want to register. (If you need help finding this, use http://findmyhub.hubitat.com, but there is no need to if you do.)
-
Use the "Register Hub" card on the main page (above) or go to Settings > Hub Details to check registration status for that hub and register there if needed
-
Log in (or create your account if needed and then log in).
-
Re-check Settings > Hub Details if you want to make sure it succeeded.
While you are working on the network piece, I just wanted to clarify the registration part. Visiting portal.hubitat.com is an http page that redirects you to
getstarted.hubitat.com. If you'd like to check your hubs registrations, you want to visit my.hubitat.com. Also the registration details are accessible from the hub interface by going to Settings, then Hub Details, as mentioned above.
