Have I bought a US C7 and not a UK model?

Hi all.
I am excited to join the community but am a complete newbie here.
I bought a Hubitat (2nd hand) with a USB Zigbee/Zwave dongle.

I believe I have a C7 but for the US as i cannot get any zigbee devices working (added).

Does the USB dongle send out UK signal? Is there any way I can use it?

I hope someone knows a fix. I havent installed any drivers for the USB so any guidance is helful.

First, I'd verify what model you really have. The only difference between various regions with the C-7 hub is the power adapter, which would be suited to the typical mains power for your region. This is really more or less true of all hub models, except that:

  • The C-3 and C-4 require external radios for Zigbee and Z-Wave (because there is nothing built in);
  • The C-5 has built-in Zigbee and Z-Wave radios, but built-in Z-Wave only works for the North American frequency (908.4 MHz) and requires an external stick for other regions/frequencies;
  • The C-7 has built-in Zigbee and Z-Wave radios, and the frequency/region is selectable in software via Settings > Z-Wave Details. It also does not support the use of external sticks.

The model should be printed on the bottom of your hub, or you can find it in Settings > Z-Wave Details. If you have an external Z-Wave stick, you can probably find the frequency written somewhere on the outside (likely upper 800s or lower 900s MHz), or you could search the model number to find information from the manufacturer. Newer ones of these may also be software-settable, but I'm not sure any work with Hubitat.

In any case, you'd need the internal or external radio matched to the frequency of the devices you're using for Z-Wave (Zigbee is the same worldwide), so I'd start there.

There should be no dongle on a C7 for z-wave or zigbee connectivity. C5 and prior versions sold internationally had one (or even two dongles). It could be a wifi dongle if it's really a C7.

Did the person that sold it to you describe it as a C7?

@user931 I would also point out zigbee isn't region specific like z-wave. A zigbee device from pakistan will work on a zigbee hub in the UK...

Thank you all.
I have found out is a C4 in the end, so miss sold to start with.
That explains the USB dongle.

I do not know why I cannot find my zigbee devices. I have removed them the old connection. I wanted to clarify what I have before I start buying new devices to test with.

Many thanks

Sounds like you were suckered. Any way to get your money back? I would just bite the bullet and get a new C7 and know that you have a warranty. And the region is software set on the c7

Hi, yeah. I know.
If I can make this one work, I'll be happy that I have used this one effectively. I do not have any zwave products so I hope I can get away with this one for now.

Then when I expand to the zwave world, I may just have to upgrade :slight_smile:

If you're outside North America, you would need two "dongles," one for Z-Wave and one for Zigbee. (In North America, you could use the Nortek/Linear HUSBZB-1, which has both radios but only US Z-Wave; this is the only one I'm aware of that does. It's also the only one I'm aware of that works with Hubitat for Zigbee, so you might need it anyway; you'd just need something else for your region of Z-Wave, too. It's possible to use only one or the other if you want.)

So ... if you don't have a Zigbee stick, that is why. The C-4 has no built-in radios. But if you want Zigbee and don't already have a dongle, it's about half the price of a C-7 anyway, so I might just do that if it were me. :smiley: (And perhaps you can find this dongle cheaper than I can in the US.)
