Has Hubitat Thought About Offering Referral Incentives?

Gets the same value in extra months free on the existing subscription.

So a referral reward valuable enough that I want to give it, and someone else will want to receive it, but not valuable enough to create a black market.
What if:
The referral giver is never in possession of the referral code, but the code is sent to the new prospect directly from Hubitat. When I want to give a referral I must log in to a referal portal and enter the prospect's email. That way the code is tied to my account, but Hubitat maintains control over every code. I get credit, Hubitat can monitor and control the process, and there is no market because referal codes are one time use only.

That's exactly how the program is set up.

Kinda love how this is shaping up, well done Bobby (and lots of good questions/comments from us civilians).

[Pssst, Bobby, I'll refer you if you'll refer me. Keep this on the down-low, of course. It's the perfect crime, we'll make...]

Yes, the new friends and family offering is great for friends and family, who will give you their email without question (you probably already have it). My point was about expanding on that to refer people who probably don't want to give out their email to strangers. It doesn't really matter if we know what the codes are if they are one time use, they expire, and they are tied to an actual Hubitat user who requested them to get the referral bonus.

If I convince someone on the internet to buy a hub, just because I like using Hubitat, it shouldn't really matter if they are friend or family or not, I was still involved in their decision to buy a new Hubitat hub from Hubitat.

As is, I recommend Hubitat in a smart home forum to people looking for a new hub choice, and people just assume I'm getting a kickback when I actually am not. If people are going to think that anyway, I thought maybe there should be a way to actually get something for doing it.

I don't need this to happen. I can afford my subscriptions just fine and I will continue to recommend Hubitat, but I thought that it could be a good for Hubitat to sell more hubs , as it gives an incentive for all Hubitat users to recommend Hubitat to people outside of just friends and family, specifically on social media.

That’s a great idea! To prevent bots from exploiting the program, we could make the friend’s email optional, so that users could request a unique referral code sent directly to them, which they can then share with the person they’re referring to Hubitat—rather than us sending the code on their behalf.

May want to limit the number you can request then. Also highlight the one time use nature.

You do not want a bot request thousands of them and simply posting lists of codes.

Yup. Just a few codes at a time would work. I think Hubitat would clearly see abuse arise in this system if it was attempted. The only bot that would be spamming codes around the internet would be one written by a Hubitat user, to get tons of free subscription time. There is no incentive for anyone except a Hubitat user with an account to send a code to someone, so the spammy user would be easy to spot, and the codes could be traced right back to them.

That could be condition of use when requesting a code. Abuse would kick you out of the referral system and take away any subscription time you got from referrals.

I would just request one code, after someone tells me they are now planning to buy a hub based on info I gave them about it. I wouldn't mention any codes until they already came around saying they want to buy a Hubitat hub, as it seems scammy to just say upfront, "Hubitat is great and I can get you 10% off a hub!"

I love it when people say , "Wow, I've never looked into Hubitat before, but with everything you told me about it, I think I'm going to go that way" - then I would DM a code.
