I somehow seem to post the first new year topic, so thought "why break with tradition..."
Hope everyone has something to look forward to in 2026 and something new to add to their
smart home. Plus, I hope everyone can find some time to stop and take a break, whether it is now or in the next few months.
I might stop before this becomes more cringe-worthy...
We are ahead of the crowd in some things down here... including time... We have now experienced 45 minutes of 2026. Currently my music selection has not changed significantly from 2025....
But in true Aussie tradition Rage (an early morning music video program on the national broadcaster) broadcasts a program immediately after the fireworks that warns of all the categories a television program can include...
Looking forward to our family's traditional Korean new year's soup tomorrow morning...we used to make our own mandu (skins and all!) but we've gotten lazy and use store-bought now. So w/pork dumplings we're having tteok mandu guk. Mouth is watering as I think about it.
Great to start off a cool to chilly new year's morning with a hot bowl of really wonderful soup. As long as it's not raining we'll be off for a hike after breakfast.
Celebrating NYE with a year-end waltz through Wal-Mart to use up use-it-or-lose-it funds on my Humana debit card. Doubt they'll have any home automation specials to seduce me, which is good because health insurance tends not to cover Z-Wave devices.
I started on a weight loss effort very late in 2024. Since then I've dropped and kept off 30lbs for the entire year. Accomplished primarily by simply eating less, most significantly cutting out serial snacking in the evening (something sweet, something salty, something sweet, something salty, rinse and repeat...) Once I had the input side under control the lbs started dropping consistently. I'm back within a few pounds of my old fighting weight when I was in my 30's.
Also set up regular exercise/workout schedule (yoga, weights, lap swimming) for general health benefits, and I've found working out helps by reducing my snacking urges generally.
So my most important health resolution in 2026 is to keep on keeping on.
Props to you! Did you treat yourself to a Hubitat-connected scale of any kind? You seem like the kinda dude who'd be into body mass composition measurements and what-not. Keep up the excellent work.
