Guest Account Question

I have 2 Hubitats, a C7 and C5. They are totally independent with separate user IDs/emails.

I have set them up so each is the guest of the other, as most inquiries are simple.

The my.hubitat shows both, and works well.

Is the Android app supposed to show the admin and guest accounts, or can just the web page do that? So far I only see the hub for which I am admin.

Thanks Don

The app only shows one hub at a time. You would have to "switch hubs" in the settings. You should be able to see both admin and guest hubs in the menu which asks you what hub. I have my SO on a guest account and was able to log her into the app using that.

Mine are 1000 miles apart so there is no common network.

Are your remote from each other or co-located?

You can log into the app and connect to any hub on your account from anywhere (via the app), you do not need to be local. The only thing you need to be local for is to add devices, or the Web UI if you dont have remote admin. Everything else in the app works remote any time.

Yes, that is right. Maybe I am not doing things the way you think....

I have two userids on two tablets/phones. They both have different networks, and both have different devices. I have set each one up to be the guest of the other one.

When I get into my Android app, only the hub from that account shows -- not the guest.

If I go to the browser and sign into my.hubitat, I can see and access both.

Why does the Android app not show the guest hubs as possible hubs to select??

I understand what you are saying and I am telling you that it does show you all the hubs but you can only have one selected at a time in the app.

I have 3 hubs registered to my account as admin. I have one additional hub where I am a "guest" on (not my hub, it is one I do remote work on). Using my Android test tablet I have here, I am logged into my account. I tapped the hub listed in the top banner, then Switch to Another Hub. In that list I have all 4 hubs, 2 of mine are online, one is offline, and then it also lists the hub I only have guest access to.

What version of the app do you have?
I am using the latest beta version 2.1.0 (312)

A picture is worth a thousand words, but I can only share what it looks like on the iOS app when I switch hubs.

It shouldn’t be too different in the android app.

First tap the name of your hub:

Then tap on “switch to another hub.”

As @jtp10181 was explaining, the app can actively connect to only one hub at a time. This is how you switch back and forth, and it shouldn’t matter whether the account logged into the mobile app is an admin or guest account.

The App settings in Android say I am using 2.1.0.

I understand not connecting to more than 1 hubitat at a time, and I try to do exactly what is illustrated to switch to another hub. It only shows 1 hub - the one which is tied as admin to the app as signed in.

The same applies to the other device too on another userid/email. Same process gives 1 hub. If it gave 2 I would be using the app as a happy camper, but with only one its weird.

And, the oddest part is I can access them both from both userid/email when I go to the my.hubitat.com registered devices page. It often takes 2-4 consecutive logins to get in but when there I can select the one to go to and away I go.

Just to be clear, the my.hubitat.com gives access using a PC or an Android device, and since both accounts have remote admin, I can log in just fine. This is not the case just within the Android app.

An illustration won't help as all it will show is the one and currently logged in hubitat.

Maybe something is cached in the app, you could try deleting it and reinstalling it. Not sure what else it could be. When you go to select your hub it should show you the exact same hubs that show up in the registered hubs list on the portal.

There have been cases in the past where people have had issues with no all hubs showing, which is why I asked the version. Was possibly an app bug although it has been a while since I have seen any such complaints. 2.1.0 is pretty generic at this point, there have been a lot of subversions. If you go to More ( 3 lines) > App Settings it will show you the exact version with the build number in ( ) after it.

You could also try removing the guest accounts and adding them back again.

I think your problems is right here, all hubs you are admin or guest to must be on the same userid/email to be able to do seamless switching in the app, in your case, you need to logout and log back in on a different userid/email.

Also when using the same userid/email, all hubs can send notifications to the hub even if it's not the selected one.

He is saying that each hub has a separate admin account (which is what he wants if you read up higher).

But then he also added those admin emails as guests on the other account. So they both can see both hubs for the time being.

This was done on purpose to prepare for selling one of he homes. He does not want them on the same admin account.

I see no reason why this should not work, the only disadvantage is you cannot share a remote admin subscription which OP is already aware of.

That's exactly what I thought at first and that would work (I have 3 also on my account), but from what he says on that last email, I believe he is using 2 different accounts and that would explain the behavior he is seeing just in case that is the case.

Ah! That was it!! I uninstalled / reinstalled and both Android devices came up with admin and guest accounts showing, accessible, and operational. Works like a champ!!

Thanks for the great advice.

Now I can managed and admin the two locations well, and when the day comes to sell, just turn over the userid and password, disconnect the guest accounts, and let the new owners do their thing.

Correct two different accounts but the hubs in question are linked to BOTH accounts via guest accounts. So logging in to either account you can see both hubs on the registered hubs page. In this case both should show up in the list when you switch hubs from the mobile app, no matter which of the two accounts is logged in as.

Good to know in case anyone else has the same issue.
Deleting the app seems to be the go to solution for everything...
