Hi, I have a few Google Minis that will announce when the Alarm System has been deactivated. This has been working for the last few days, but this morning the Googles did not announce. I'm not sure why. I have the Chromecast Integration set to ping the units every 15 seconds. What would make this not work now? I'm at a loss.
Is there a new app that will ping these Minis to keep them alive? If I go into the device and click "Initialize? then run the rule, it will work. So I'm loosing communications somewhere.
Don't know if this would help. When I lose contact with my Google mini, going into the Preferences of the device and re-entering the IP address normally fixes the problem.
Yes the address of the mini which you can find in the Google Home app. Open the device, click on the settings cog at the top right and choose device info.
By default the field doesn't show the current IP address, so I just re-enter it and click save. When you leave the page and come back the IP will have gone again but it is stored.
Never had to keep the GM's alive. I have a couple of rules that are triggered by events and not had to "wake up" the device first.
One thing that may help is to go to your router and either set a fixed IP address or reserve the DHCP address for the router which will ensure it keeps the same IP address through hub and device reboots. On top of that, I have a rule that every 30 minutes, has the action, "initialize() on (whatever name you gave the mini, minus the parentheses). That seems to work almost all the time. I have had occasion where it did not respond, but those times are rare.
I issue a refresh and initialize at the top of every hour. I can't remember the last time I had an issue with announcements. For me, this has just worked for years now
