Google Home - Can't Add new Hue Group

I added some Hue lights to my kitchen and created a room called Kitchen in Hue. I added the group using the Hue Integration. I am now trying to add this huegroup to my Google Hime but keep getting this error.

@mike.maxwell here's my device info. Any thoughts?

I had this same error happen the other day after I removed my Hue account from Google Home and added everything back over through the Google Home HE integration. I just ended up adding the individual lights and put them in rooms with the same name as the group. I'm not sure why we can't add a Hue group, but am curious of the answer for this as well.

We could before. All my hue lights are added as groups and work perfectly with GH...I just can't add this new one. Very Strange. Running the latest production firmware btw.

Hmmm, that's interesting. Maybe something changed on Google's end?

It gets more interesting. I was looking through my different hue groups to see if any looked different. I noticed that all my existing groups were rgb lights and the newly added kitchen group included only ambiance lights...so...I tested by adding my son's bedroom lights (color hue) and guess what....it added to GH fine. So it seems like the GH integration only supports rgb group lights and freaks out with ambiance lights (same driver btw).

That's probably why I didn't know you could add them. All my lights are ambiance lights.

Well I at least found a workaround. It will only work if you have a color bulb somewhere. I figured I would add it here for anyone else with the same issue...at least until Mike and team get this sorted out,

  • I added a color light to the Hue room in the Hue app.
  • deleted the existing hue group from HE.
  • readded group (that now includes a color bulb)
  • added group back into GH
  • removed color device from Hue room using the Hue app.
  • all is well now

You can add individual ambiance lights to the GH integration just fine. I'm able to add all my CT Hue lights to google home without a problem. What driver are they using in HE?

@stephack
Have you tried connecting them individually to see if they connect? Also, you're able to control them correctly in HE as a group even though they are ambiance?

I didn't have any problems adding the lights, only the group.

Okay...sorry...was confused by your post after that stating you didn't know you could add "them". I thought you were referring to the lights not the groups. But I'll shut up now.

I tend to move my bulbs around a lot so the groups are my preferred way to add. My workaround will have to do for now, but thanks for the suggestion.

My experiences are even stranger. I previously couldn't add any Hue groups and it has caused me to use a number of hacks, none that I like. I was able to add all my groups except for one today. That group is a different bulb type (still color) but other than that, there's nothing interesting about it.

I am having this problem - I tried this and I'm still getting the same error unfortunately. Can't find any solutions still, being months later.

CoCoHue solved this for me. GitHub - HubitatCommunity/CoCoHue: Open-source community-created Hue Bridge integration for Hubitat

It has something to do with setting the default parameters for the devices. The author of CoCoHue figured it out.
