I’m in the process of moving my things from Wink to HE and have a question about my thermostat. In Wink I was able to set up shortcuts to turn fan only on or off, turn A/C or heat on or off and set temperature all using my voice with IFTTT and Alexa. So far I can only adjust the temperature using Google Home. Anyone know if there is a way to voice control the same sort of shortcut settings I had with Wink using HE and Google or Alexa?
Not easily; the Hubitat Alexa skill does not currently support thermostats. If you search the forum, you can find some creative workarounds (exposing it to ST if you have an ST account, using a virtual dimmer for the setpoint, etc.).
Thank you for the info about ST. I think at this point I’m going to move the thermostat back to Wink. It just worked like what I needed. Plus with the seeming reappearance of their customer service today I am feeling a bit more hopeful about Wink.
Yes, to be clear my comment was only that:
I assumed the poster knew Google Home did since they mentioned that; if something is broken there, that is a different issue.
I do have mine working with Alexa, but it's via HubConnect to and from SmartThings. You could just use a "virtual setpoint" dimmer in Hubitat if you wanted an easy, crude workaround, though. I also have my fan integrated by way of a virtual switch (I'm pretty sure Alexa doesn't directly support that either, which is why I created this).
I moved the thermostat back to Wink, set up the shortcuts to turn only the fan off and on, set up IFTTT to trigger the shortcuts with Alexa and all is good. Maybe when I get a bit more familiar with HE I’ll try the virtual switch route. But for now I prefer Alexa over Google to control the thermostat. I do have ST which I got to try out. Didn’t do any more, for me at least, compared to Wink so I never moved devices over to it. Also got a Pi 3 to try with Hassio, but gave up on it. I’m too old to work on learning what is needed for it.
All is good for now. Thank you for all the info. It is very much appreciated.
Coming from Wink, I second the wish for Alexa voice control over the gocontrol thermastat. Work arounds exist, but why clutter the set up of your smart home with 15 different apps? Found the same issue with home screen widgets. After a while the web gets confusing.
