I tried testing two use cases for GV's tonight, neither seem to work, so consider this my official feature request @bravenel
Include variable value in a notification using %value% (or some other tag?)
Be able to set a dimmer to a variable's value
Neither of these are really that important, I already have everything working the way I want it to with virtual dimmers and a 3rd party app, but this would make it marginally easier.
You can already use a variable value in notification {variable name}
Second request is a +1
Ah sweet, did not know that. Will give that a shot, thanks @halfrican.ak
One caveat, there is a bug that will prevent the variable value from being totally up to date if your using it outside of the rule that modifies it. A fix is incoming, but the workaround is to create a "dummy" GV and have it set (doesn't matter what to) in the notification rule.
Ok, that must be what I'm seeing as not working
Are you trying to use a GV as a trigger? If so, yest, that's a different bug that has also been identified and fix incoming. (it's a beta feature)

Yep. That's what I get for not searching first

There's a request for a generalized feature to use a variable in any place a number is called for. This may be doable, but is not a small undertaking. I will look at it as a possibility.
