I have a light outside my office, that I want to have Flash, when I am on a conference call. (I call it my On-Air Light). I have a set of rules in Rule Machine that uses a ST Button and a Virtual Switch to then turn on or off the Flashing.
Installed is a Zigbee dimmer switch from LivingWise/Orvibo. It works fine with either the "generic zigbee dimmer" or "ge zigbee dimmer" drivers. Except I cannot get it to Flash.
I have confirmed the button command and rules work, by subbing in one of my Lutron Z-Wave dimmers on another circuit to the rules.
Is this a limitation of Zigbee as a whole? Is the Flash function part of the device more than the hub?
I did try all the possible dimmer drivers (GE, Nue, Zooz) I could identify in the Hub listings.. a few worked, but none supported the Flash.
The Dimmers are prefered, as the Switches I have tried are too loud with the relay 'clicking' on an off.
If you don’t need it to be a rapid flash, you could just build a rule to flash them by toggling then on an off. Then trigger the actions of that rule from your main rule, and stop actions s to halt the flashing.
Thanks for the suggestion. I managed to set up a rule using the repeat function and toggling the switch that worked out great. Learning the repeate and repeat end in RM took a bit...but it gave me a really good result with at 2 second repeat cycle.
Basically its the WAF... The 'rustic' fixture that was approved to go outside my door has a old filament type bulb in it to match the style which I need to work with.
My original plan was to use a 50's era On-Air Light, and decorate the wall around it with some vinyl and music memorabilia I have... but that got shot down real quick!
Not worth more - just maintaining balance. I'm permitted to 'play' with and spend $$ on smart home stuff so, she gets a say in the aesthetics. She gets to 'design/decorate' the new basement, so I get a 4 post lift in the garage... Ying & Yang.. Balance and Flow.
