Hi I’m hoping someone can help, I’ve searched but can’t find an answer, I’m new to Hubitat and would like to know if there’s a way of changing the size of the geofence around my home I’ve used the slider but it’s still too large, also is there a way of adding a second hoe zone.
Sorry if this is in the wrong place..
Any help others issues are really appreciated
Thanks
The geofence is adjustable, but it has a minimum radius, so once you’ve adjusted to that minimum that’s as far as it’ll go.
It isn’t possible to add an additional tracked location in the Hubitat mobile app.
For a more advanced geofencing integration with Hubitat, you might be interested in using OwnTracks, see this thread:
Hi Mark thanks for your reply, it seems a lot of hassle to go to through having to use a different app for geofencing, when it should really be built in I guess Hubitat has a long way to catch up with other smart home technology, lll shelve it for now or maybe even sell the hub. Do you think it might be added sometime in the future
What might be added? Multiple geofence locations? More adjustment to the size of the geofence?
I don’t know if they’re planning to add that at all. There is a category for feature requests, so you could make a new post with requests there if you’d like.
The geofencing in the mobile app meets a basic need. For users with more advanced needs, there are a variety of ways to get fancier with geofencing by incorporating solutions developed by the community.
Which other smart home solutions does Hubitat need to catch up with?
It looks like Hubitat's smallest geofence is 100m / 328 feet (eye balling from the map). You really cannot go smaller than that due to jitter in the phone's reported locations - otherwise you can get false "away from home - back at home" triggers.
As for multiple "homes", that is a corner case that I wouldn't expect the HE app to need to support. The "home" region governs presence detection which it does as expected.
This is a great point. Without other safeguards in place, a geofence much smaller than this could cause issues if automations are triggering based solely off of the mobile phone’s presence sensor.
Personally, I use another option (similar to OwnTracks) that allows me to create one geofence around my house with a very tight radius to trigger arrival events. And another geofence with a larger radius around the house to trigger departure events.
Hubitat has a lot of great options for geofencing, whether built-into the platform, or from many community devs who help other users with more advanced needs .
