Geofence issue for 2nd phone

C8 Pro- version 2.5.0.123

Yesterday added my wife’s iphone as a device. Followed the steps on an old thread below- downloaded the Hubitat app, logged into my account, added new device, joined my hub and set up the geofence accordingly. Settings on IOS are always allow and refresh updates for the app settings. Today when she left the house, her presence on the new device did not change leaving or coming back.

I deleted the app on her phone, restarted the process and still same results. Any thoughts?

Thanks

What were you looking at to determine if “presence” has changed?

  1. The phone device on the devices page of the hub?

  2. The phone app itself?

The phone cannot update the hub if it can't communicate with it. Verify communications are working by trying to control some devices at home, over the Internet.

The phone will not send updates to the hub, if it doesn't know it's location has moved inside/outside the geofence. Does the phone app correctly show those changes?

EDIT I hope the Android screen capture is close enough to the IOS version, that you get the idea.

I was looking at the devices page on my laptop, her phone remained present state the entire time. I also looked at the logs as I have a rule show triggers, actions and events, no change there either.

I used the dashboard on her phone to turn some lights on and off, all worked as expected.

I assumed you did that when you were not at home, and not connected to your Wi-Fi?

The next step is to determine if the phone knows it is leaving and returning home.

Check the phone app (see previous screen capture) to see if it is reporting correctly. If the app doesn't have permissions to access your location (one possible example) it can't update your hub correctly.

The test was while home and on WiFi. I’ll try and check the phone tomorrow. If the app has been enabled for location and always allowed, why would The phone not realize it’s leaving the geofence?

Well after first determining the problem is with the phone, some things to consider are….

Perhaps the geofence has not been configured properly. Maybe wrong location or radius size.

I am not a fan of iPhones at all. and I am not familiar with all their intricacies. So once again, if the problem is proven to be within the phone you may need some suggestions from other iPhone users

I have seen similar issues in Android caused by limited battery permissions. The clue was that location updated immediately whenever the app was opened but It would never update when running in the background.

Not sure what fixed it but disabled then enabled geofence over phone and it’s all working correctly.
