GE Z-Wave Plus Dimmer - Model 14294

Hello - I'm new to the Hubitat Community and I've been working to migrate my system over from SmartThings. First time posting so please be patient with me.

I've taken the following steps:

  • excluded all of my dimmers from SmartThings and have included them into the Hubitat ecosystem (about 30-40 - i followed the directions to build a strong mesh network)
  • The Generic Z-Wave Dimmer Driver automatically populates during the inclusion process
  • This driver works well for basic functionality but it does not poll the device when manually switched, ie the state does not update (only when done via an automation) - i got around this by activating the native polling app in the pre-loaded Hubitat apps
  • This driver does not enable double tap functionality, however, which I'm really trying to retain
  • I tried using community drivers (Nuttytree and Botched1) but the polling doesn't seem to work and I'm unable to manage the state through my dashboard

I've spent a lot of time reading the forums and trying different drivers with no success. I appreciate any guidance folks might have - thank you.

Do you know if it is zwave, or zwave plus (most 14294 are plus, but some of the oldest ones are non-plus)?

If it is plus, you don't need to poll. Switch the driver to "Generic Z-Wave Smart Dimmer" (smart is the key word, that is for zwave plus devices) or one of the user drivers you mentioned. Make sure and hit CONFIGURE after changing drivers, too. That is needed to setup the communication to the device.

If you aren't sure if it is non-plus or plus, open the device details page and look at the "data" section near the bottom, and look at the "inClusters" section. If the fist set of numbers is 0x5E then it is zwave plus.

If it is not plus, then you will need to install and use the zwave poller app. Also, if it is non-plus then you will likely be out of luck getting double tap to work unless someone writes you a custom driver, as none of the user ones support double tap / non-plus devices.

Thank you for the quick reply - greatly appreciated.

You are absolutely correct. The device that i've been testing on is an older dimmer and was not z-wave plus. Most of the dimmers are in fact z-wave plus - I tested the polling via manual switch and you are correct, the state updates correctly on the newer dimmers - problem solved - thank you.

Any suggestion on a driver that would let me use the double tap functionality? The Generic Z-Wave Smart Dimmer does not let me access it

I use the GE Enbrighten Z-Wave Smart Dimmer for my new dimmers. The system identified those upon inclusion, however. They do double tap if you choose button-3 is double tap up and 4 is double tap down, I believe. JasonJoel is the expert though.

Thanks for your reply. I have tried that driver as well but it doesn't appear to work well with my older model 14294 zwave plus dimmers
