GE/Jasco switches - double tap behavior change in 5.54 firmware

I have 4 of these switches (UltraPro-branded, P/N 54890 / ZW4008), using the "GE Enbrighten Z-Wave Plus Switch" driver from https://raw.githubusercontent.com/Botched1/Hubitat/master/Drivers/GE%20Enbrighten%20Switch/GE%20Enbrighten%20Switch.groovy, and they seem to be handling double tap differently, with the only difference between them being the firmware version.
2 of the switches that have 5.53 firmware don't turn the load on when double-tapped; and a single button press turns the load on with a barely noticeable delay.
2 of the switches on 5.54 firmware turn the load on immediately, whether double-tapped or single tapped.
"Button 3 pressed" events are generated correctly regardless of the version.

Anyone else ran into this? I understand why they would want such a change, as it improves perceived "responsiveness" of the device, but is it possible to get 5.53-like behavior on the newer version? I basically want to use double taps to control an entirely different device from the same switch, if that makes sense.
Unfortunately, Jasco is not exactly known for oversharing, so there's basically zero information about firmware versions, updates, release notes, etc...

There is a beta firmware to correct this issue.
