Many people are using them for pool pumps. You will find many references to it here and on the SmartThings forum. I donβt have one but again seen it mentioned.
yep I did that nothing really talked about the range they can be connected to
I don't think that there is anyone GE here either. Perhaps if you visit those posts and tag the OP, they might share their distance. Remember, though that you and I discussed zwave. So assume that you're probably going to need something additional to make it bind well.
roger that
Just got your back, that's all.
Now go do cool things, Pat.
Oh I am node-RED for the win
As @april.brandt mentions you may need to be creative. I just had a friend buy a HE hub and in order to get his detached garage zwave lock to work he had to put an Aeotec repeater in an outdoor covered outlet. All has been well since doing that. The GE outdoor plugs are repeaters too so maybe you power some string lights too
I have one. I use it for my pool pump.
I can't speak for the range. There are a lot of factors that affect range such as obstacles, or what repeaters you have along the way. It may actually pick up a repeating device on the top floor of your house instead of a closer one you think it would use. Your "quite a ways" may be a big closer than my "quite a ways" so it would be hard to say if it will work for you. In my case the switch is on the side of my house and I have a few repeating devices between it and my hub that help it along the way.
Other than that they are a good switch. I do recommend getting one and if you have issues with range, get creative with some repeaters to help it.
All you can really do is dip the toes in the water and see how your fare out. But, I think you'll make it work because you have a better understanding about how to do that in HE. I look forward to hearing about your project.
