Big garage door
small garage door
service door
Mudroom door
Garage lights
Workbench light
garage motion sensor 1
garage Motion sensor 2
I would like to automate my garage lights so they turn on if
any of the doors open
any motion detector senses motion
I'd like the lights to turn off after 10 minutes if there is no motion.
I've tried several rules but they do not work properly. Let's say I walk from the house through the mudroom door into the garage to tinker around. The garage lights will turn on and unfortunately they will turn off even though I'm in front of a motion detector.
the other issue I've had is if my wife opens up the mudroom door while I'm outside, a couple minutes later the garage lights will turn off then I'm yelling at Alexa to turn the lights back on.
Thanks for all of your help
Josh

I do this with much the same environment and it has worked very well for a couple of years. BUT, I there are three simple automation rules, several rule machine rules, garage door tilt sensors, Hue outdoor motion sensors in a motion zone inside the garage as well as a three smart switches and a door contact sensor. If you're interested I'm willing to screen shot the rules and message them to you. Seems to be too convoluted for a pages long reply here.
I intend no shade here to the good Captain as this is a fine idea to consider (and may possibly be easier to work with than Room Lighting in this particular case), but for OP, just be aware that the Motion and Mode Lighting (MML) app is no longer being actively supported by staff... Although it's still available to use, it is being superseded by the (newer) Room Lighting app.
I don't know what the future holds for MML in terms of ever being deprecated, but staff has made it pretty clear that Room Lighting is the heir apparent. So just something to consider as you're kicking tires.
I frequently use Room Lighting. It wasn't available when I set up my garage lighting. I'm set up with tilt sensors, several virtual switch, multiple light switches and a motion zone for the motion sensors. Integrating all of that with Room Lighting could be quite the adventure
Very good point. I keep forgetting, actually putting off, converting all of my motion to RL. Guess I should work on doing that to make sure it will do what I need before something changes with MML.
Only difference from OP scenario is to add an off timer that will turn off the lights after 10 mins if a door is opened and a motion sensor is not triggered. The "don't turn off if stays pending" keeps any active motion sensors in charge of turning off the lights as the motion off trigger will always be >10 mins (due to hardware timeouts) in this example.
I usually add options to turn on/off if partially (1 of the 2 lights in this example) on/off
I usually add all the lights to "switches that determine all lights are off". It's a bit of belt & suspenders for simpler rules, necessary if one is using buttons instead of lights.
These rules become easier to implement as one gains experience.
For this same task, I have experimented with RM, Basic Rules, Room Lighting and webcore. I have settled on webcore, mainly because I am most familiar with that option.
