Garage door opener on mirror but no garage door. Other uses?

Unfortunately, my house doesn't have a garage. BUT, I have a fancy mirror in my Prius with buttons which are meant to open up a garage. So it's useless.

I was just wondering if there's any way to read the garage door opener signal from my car's mirror (perhaps via a Bond Hub) and repurpose the button to turn on other routines? Has anyone else messed with this and got it to work? Did you try other methods?

I suppose I could just put a Pico in my car and be done with it, but I hate to waste perfectly nice buttons.

  1. Get this as a receiver, and train it to work with your HomeLink buttons.
  2. Then connect it to the external contacts on an Ecolink Z-wave+ contact sensor that is paired to Hubitat,
  3. When it receives a signal from the HomeLink transmitter in your car, it will momentarily flip the contact sensor from open to close.
  4. Setup automations on your Hubitat that are triggered by the contact closing.

I suppose thatโ€™s one great option, but at that point Iโ€™d just visor mount a Pico for half that price.

I don't believe Bond or Broadlink's RF unit would work here. Garage door openers generally work on a much higher frequency than most remote RF devices are capable of.
