I rephrased the Reddit title with something less inflammatory. But it would be good to learn the underlying cause for this failure.
In ~7 years, the only failure I've had was with a Monoprice in-wall relay, and retrospectively that very likely was installer error.
What kind of light(s) were on the circuit?

He doesn't say. The Reddit poster is convinced this happened before he put a fixture on that circuit, although it was discovered only after he put the fixture in and found he couldn't control it.
