Favorites? I cannot find anything about them

I have a C8 and C5 mesh setup running 2.4.3.137 in developer mode. I have looked all through the app, online, and in the community trying to find info about Favorites.

Simply put, what I found as advice was to click the "star" on the device tile, and that I I use the gear, to toggle stuff on the Home page.

Well, I find absolutely NOTHING on the tiles that might be a "star", and when it comes to the gear dialog, it offers nothing save "Include hidden" and "exclude virtual". If I cannot toggle items as favorites then they sure won't be available on the start screen, as I understand it, which oddly enough is exactly what is happening. Nothing can display because nothing can be selected.

HOW does one get Favorites to show and allow selection, meaning if the star is on or not?

It's sure got me baffled, and there seems to be nothing available that clarifies this.

Thanks, Don

Far as I know it is for the mobile app only.

Sounds like are looking at the web-based admin interface on your hub:

The "favorites" feature is a feature of the mobile app, not the above:

That being said, this is an interesting (accidental?) request, and I've passed it on! It might be neat to have this there, too, and synced if possible...

Thanks but I am referring to the Android app as downloaded. Normally it works great, but this one is a mystery.

First, the words that have the most significance from your reply:
" For quick control of any device (e.g., to easily turn a switch or bulb on or off), tap the device icon in the top left of the tile. For more control (e.g., to set the level of dimmer or bulb or the setpoint or mode of a thermostat), tap near the center of the tile.
Tap the star icon in the top right of any device tile to "favorite" that device for easier access on the Home tab."

The GEAR for Devices shows all ticked except "Show Device ID" and "Compact view mode".

There are no devices in grid mode that show anything in the upper left of the grid icon box. One the Home tab, that is how you "hide" things, but on Devices this is where it seems one should be able to toggle Favorites -- but it isn't offered.

So, I'm still trying to figure out how to use this, and thus effectively.

Thanks, Don

But you aren't -- that's the problem.

If you are seeing this, you are in the web/admin interface for the hub that I described above. You can get to this from the app (it's buried a bit and not the best way to get there if that is what you want), but it's not really the core app functionality.

What do you see if you launch the mobile app and go to the "Devices" tab (at the bottom of the app, not after going to the hub interface)? Note that Android conventions hide tab labels by default, so you're looking for the bulb icon, next to the "Home" tab with a house icon that will likely be selected by default. That is where you can use the functionality you are looking for, including "favoriting" a device for use on the "Home" tab.

This again sounds like you are describing the hub interface, not the mobile app. In the Home tab in the mobile app -- taking care not to fall into the same pitfall as above of going to the hub interface itself -- you should see what you are looking for. This what @Johnnyvaneddie shows in the Android version of the app in the screenshot above.

Devices in the mobile app. Notice the bold stars in two of the locks. Tap the star to enable/disable as favorites.

Sorry for the delay but I am out of time for a few weeks. I did get a snapshot on my Android app to share with you, because I suspect I am missing something significant that you may have insight to.

I know of no setting to make this display be "desktop" -- it is what it is. I have no way to see or "star" any item as illustrated.

Is there a setting I am missing???

You have used the Android app to dig into the menus and access the web interface of your hub, as mentioned above. That is not what you want. (You don't need the app to do that at all; you could just navigate to your hub by IP address or hostname in any browser on your network, whether on your phone or a desktop or whatever device.)

That is the root of your problem.

What does the app look like when you just open it before you tap anything else? (In the unlikely event it's this -- it shouldn't be -- the "X" in the upper left should at least take you back.)

I am baffled by these comments. There is, as far as I can tell in the app, one interface to use. When I use it, then these posts say I am using the web interface.

If there is a way to choose web vs android native, then how do I change it?

There is no "x" to take me back. If you mean the one at the upper right, than shuts down the interface and I go back to choose which Hubitat I want to access. Yes, I have a mesh network with 2 hubs in my home.

I used to have 3, one remote, where I found all kinds of odd things happening when it comes to switching between them, but that is another subject.

Oh yes, and I do have "remote control" management operating to access all these hubs. I have been travelling so haven't had a chance to really figure out what is being said. The remote site is "sold", and is no longer a factor. Locally, I can use my browser to access the hub, but at no time can I find anything to mark the items as favorites - in home, rooms or devices selections.

Would you please explain what I am looking for, and how to do it. In the app is ok. In the web is ok. I just cannot find what is being referred to.

Thanks, Don

Please share a screenshot of what the mobile app looks like when you launch it. That should be what you want, but it sounds like that's not where you are. Since I'm not sure why, I think seeing what you see so we can figure out more would be the easiest path forward.

This is what I was looking for above, as well:

As an example, here is what one could look like:

Yours will look slightly different based on the options you've selected in the app, the apps and devices on your hub, and the fact that you're using Android while I'm using iOS -- but the bulk of it should be similar.

Look more closely -- there is one in the top left of the screenshot (of the wrong place, but still quite likely in the app) that you shared in your post above:

But again, if you could, please share what you see immediately after you launch the app.

I have to agree with the others you are probably in the wrong place. The following are what makes me think that:

All those and many more things you have said are aspects of the desktop or remote access site, not the mobile app.

The mobile app should look like Johnny's and BBrannon's screenshots above. Your screenshot is of the Device tab in the hub interface, and not of the mobile app. It is a bit confusing they call both of these "Devices", but the devices you are in is the device management section, and not the mobile app devices.

While I am asking, what color is the icon for the app on your phone? What is the reported version of the app?

Ok, I did a full reinstall on my phone. I am typing this on it. Here is Play Stores view of the app...

So I start the app and am offered 2 huvs. C8 is my normal interface. Here is each screen as I start...

So I never entered a browser. I only ran the app. Same question on what am I doing to imply a browser is in use, unless it is inherent to the app?

I do not understand what is different about what I am doing. Maybe this will help you see what I see.

Thanks Don

You should have stopped after your first screenshot. You are going too far into the menus, and ARE ending up in the hub interface and not in the app interface.

From the first Home menu, there is a Device button in the bottom row, the button next to the Home button. Press that.

You should get the menu that bbrannon shows above.

You are doing what many of us suspected, which is not what you want. Here are some examples of that suspicion:

You really just want the main page of the app, as several of us mentioned. You did enter a browser by doing a "Connect to hub" from the app, albeit a browser embedded in the app. What you need to do is not tap on your hub name or anything else -- you're already viewing this hub's features in the mobile app. (Doing a "Connect to hub" takes you to the web interface for the hub if you're local or via Remote Admin if you're subscribed; you can get to this from any browser -- much more easily without the app, but still possible from within -- but you only need this for hub management like adding/removing devices or apps.)

For what you want, you just need to go to the "Devices" tab (light bulb icon) at the bottom of the app (not doing what you're doing above, at least not beyond the very first screenshot of the app itsef) and use the small star icon on any device tile to "favorite" it. This will make it appear on the "Home" tab (house icon). Again, this all must be done without doing what you were doing after you opened the app -- i.e., do not navigate to the hub's web interface itself but rather stay in the tabs at the bottom of the mobile app itself.

I still don't see a "Favorites" section on your Home tab, which by default I think should be under "Last Notification." That could be because you have none, but it could also be because you have that feature disabled. So you might also want to dig into the gear/settings icon in the top right of the home page and make sure that "Favorite Devices" is enabled, maybe if you star something and still don't see it:

Hope that helps!

Ah! I see. Now I understand.

Not sure which of multiple meshed Hubitats will be accessible at that level which is why I consistently went into the hub itself. But now I understand where the evasive "star" is located.

Thanks Don
