I had a few different motion sensors and I've found the smart things V2 to be the fastest so far. I'm now becoming frustrated at changing the coin cell batteries quite frequently as I have Circa 10 of these. I'm basically looking for Motion sensors with a long battery life! So I bought a few of the IKEA motion sensors which take 2xaaa batteries but their response times are almost 1 second slower than the smart things sensors and they're also not as sensitive, albeit cheap, the IKEA ones are poor. So based on the lack of variety in the UK, what's your experience of sensitive Motion sensors which have a fabulous battery life. How good are the indoor Philips hue sensors for example because they seem pretty costly but I'm prepared to pay if they equal the smart things sensors or they're better?
You might want to look into newer generations of the SmartThings sensors. The V2 is pretty old now, but the "V5" or 2018 version has, as far as I know, remained virtually unchanged aside from branding since Aeotec took over years ago. They've (surprise! in case you expected anything else) increased in price in the US since Aeotec took over -- but that might have made things better in Europe.
A quick search shows they're available on Vesternet and Amazon UK.
But if capacity is your concern, keep in mind that not all coin cells are equal, and the difference between a coin cell and a larger battery isn't always as start as you might expect. For example, the difference between a CR2032 and CR2450 astounded me when I looked at the specs. For Energizer, it's 235 mAh for the former and 620 mAh for the latter -- quite a difference. Moving up to a CR2, which seems much larger, only gets you 800 mAh. More, sure, but not night-and-day IHMO. When a CR2 lasts years to me in my Iris v2 sensors (no longer available but made by CentraLite, who is thankfully still around), that's possibly just a few months less. Your preferences, of course, may vary, but a CR450 (like the CentraLite Micro Motion takes -- not sure how easily available those are in the UK) is still fine for my use.
Just on this very topic, I bought a Philips hue indoor sensor just to carry out some field tests. It turns out that theyre still half a second slower than the smartthings motion sensors which is quite unexpected given that they're costly.
So it seems that despite the coin cell battery, the smartthings motion sensors remain the speediest to my knowledge.
And yes, you cannot get the iris sensors in the UK unfortunately
@bravenel @bobbyD and team, do you have any insight into what devices are the speediest.
Also are there any notable speed differences regards motion triggers between a C7 and C8Pro?
