Fair Warning: CMARS Zigbee plugs suck

I sadly have 12 of these and over the past few months 3 or them have died a silent death. I wanted to warn the community away from these.

They identify in the driver as an eWeLink device. Model US-101. They don't last. I'll probably move to another manufacturer altogether.

Thankfully, all nine of mine are still alive after 2 1/2 years. The same cannot be said for the bulbs that were sold with them. All of those developed an annoying flicker right at the 2 year mark.

@wiegout Look at sengled outlets, they're pretty good and also great zigbee repeaters. (oval not square ones)

I’m curious - what did you have plugged into them? The best zigbee outlets I’ve had were the Iris V2 outlets and SmartThings V2. These things have lasted 7-8 years.

I’ve had several Tradfri others fail. Innr outlets haven’t failed, but I’ve only had them for 2-3 years. Same with the eWeLink ones - mine haven’t failed, but is only been 2 years.

Although I don' think I would recommend them (older technology) We have 8 Leviton VRPØ3-1LW dimmers that were purchased between 2016 and 2018 with no failures to date. We are using them for "ambience" lighting so they are on about 4 hours every day.

UPDATE: I found some Leviton with Z-Wave plus radio's. Based on my current experience I would try them if I needed more. They are a little big but with the plug coming out the bottom instead of the front they sit fine behind furniture etc. see here

Wow I purchased my first C4 in mid 2018. However it seems like I've had a Hubitat Hub forever.

Two of them had table lamps with 13W LED dumb bulbs in them. The one that just died (became unresponsive) had a small 4 channel audio mixer plugged into it.

I see that they are about 2x as expensive. Their relative quality might not be an accident. Lol

At 45.00 for 2 of them, still not bad. That said, you know the old saying. "You get what you pay for"

Agree - I've yet to have a problem with one.

I bought, maybe 8, and one was a dud.

If you got it from amazon you could probably send it back

Ach, it's been a while, can't be bothered.

I have about 6. Same plugs various names. 2-3 have gone bad . Ie either just click or do nothing. But they are basically only ones that fit in outdoor boxes.

For outdoor I simply use z-wave or zigbee receptacles instead. They're covered even when things are plugged in so I don't worry too much.

I had 8 of the eWeLink plugs, including some CMARS, I lost a couple of them during an ice storm/power outage last winter. I have lost another couple since then. I have been replacing them with Third Reality 15 amp plugs. So far, they have been great.

The plugs are available either with or without power monitoring. If you do not need power monitoring, get the plugs without it as they generate less traffic on the mesh.

And another died overnight. Thankfully I picked up a 4 pack of the Third Reality plugs during the Amazon Prime event two days ago. Time to exorcize the demons of CMARS.
