I havenāt used fade before, so I could be doing something wrong here. Goal is to have my light dim up a bit slower to not shock my eyes first thing in the AM. Today was the first attempt and it went to 40% to immediately.
Sorry I can't help but I'm going to be watching the heck out of this thread, smooth fades/transitions over longer periods of time are the only reason I still have Hue.
I too am curious how fade is supposed to work. I often set fade to 5 or 10 seconds but the lights turn on immediately instead.
This stopped working for me when RM4 was introduced. I have a few RM3 rules with fades that stopped working with that update to firmware. CC @bravenel
I'm not finding an issue with fade dimmer with either Rule 3.0 or Rule 4.0. Perhaps you could share more details about your issue, such as a screenshot of the rule in question. Also, turn on logging for the rule and show those as well.
Hi @bravenel ,
Thank you for looking into this. I know how insanely busy you are.
Iām traveling right now and for the next few days but here is as much of the info as I can get as you requested. Iāll turn on logging of the rule when I get home in a few days.
Background of this rule:
If I enter my bathroom before 8a I want the lights to come on at 1% brightness and increase to 100% brightness over 100 seconds for a slow wake up in the morning.
I have a scene called āmorningā that turns the lights in the bathroom on at 1% (created so I can easily turn on the lights manually at 1% if my motion sensor doesnāt activate or if I want to turn the lights on before I get in there)
The ādisable if left light is onā was to stop the lights from continually dimming back to 1% every time the sensor was triggered. There are probably easier and better ways to write this rule but it was working great and I didnāt have to mess with it after it was set up.
The rule looks like it might even be a 2.5 RM I just canāt confirm easily from my mobile phone from what I can see like I can on a desktop browser.
Again, it worked great for a long time and I noticed it stopped working a few days ago right around the time I upgraded to the firmware that had RM4. I canāt promise this correlation has any causation, just sharing info.

I was planning on just rebuilding the rule until I saw this post and thought maybe there was some weird or obscure bug that had been identified. This is not an urgent need of mine FYI. Again I am very much aware of how much you do and there are a lot of other super high priority things you can do instead of making my morning routine a little easier. Thank you!
I would suggest you rebuild it and see if that resolves the problem. As far as I can tell, and as far as I know, there are no new issues with fade over time, especially not for older rules from a new release.
