Excluding a Kwikset 910 from a dead hub

So I just moved into a house with a Vivint system. The previous owner forgot the pin code so Vivint support won't help me. Does anyone know how I can force reset a Kwikset 910 since I can't put the Vivint panel into exclude mode?

If you put the Hubitat hub in exclusion mode, it will exclude your lock..

In addition to the exclude you could also force a factory reset on the device by:

  1. Remove the batteries.
  2. Press and hold the lock button on the keypad.
  3. Place the batteries back in (while still holding the button)
  4. The lock will beep three times over the course of 15 seconds or so. After the 3rd beep release the button.

So here is what I have surmised. Apparently Vivint turns on some kind of Z-Wave Anti-Theft mode for the Kwikset devices. They want me to pay to have a tech come turn on service for me on a service I'll never use just to un-pair the lock. I'm exploring the idea of swapping out the Z-Wave chip to see if that will fix it for $20

OMG… I thought this feature would only have been used for commercial applications and professional installers..

Vivint also does this (enable anti-theft mode) for their thermostats.

How rude

So help me out here. I have heard of this, but I have never encountered it other than seeing devices on Ebay etc.

So is this a special Zwave thing that permanently locks a device to a hub? And there is no way to reset this "feature"?

So that ruins the device for future use unless you have the original hub and/or some type of "permission" from a company to release the device?

Effectively yes, it locks it to the hub so if you can't get into the hub you're basically out of luck. I suspect if I buy a new Z-Wave chip it will be fine. The Vivint support was quite clear that they don't do work for free so they won't be helping me unlock it in any way unless I pay them. Their support tech actually told me it was cheaper to throw the lock away and buy a new one than to pay for the activation fee.

Geez, I can't believe someone hasn't found a "hack" for that.

Indeed!

Maybe they have:
