I am using several of these wireless ERIA dimmer switches (zigbee) and seem to have the same problem on all of them. If I haven't used the switch in a few hours. the first button press results in a steady green light for about 5 secs, followed by a red flash, then a green flash, then the button press registers and the lights turn on. Each subsequent press results in a green flash and registers/triggers immediately. It will then work fine until it is left alone for a couple hours, then the cycle repeats. Is this the expect behavior? I added some sengled and peanut zigbee outlets around the house as repeaters, but it doesn't seem to make a difference. I removed anything Iris now as well since I wondered if that was messing things up, but it is still the same. Is this just how they are expected to work? The WAF on these is very low as it results in having to wait each time you enter a dark room and I'm close to the point of replacing all of them even though I only put them in a couple months ago.
@tjsawyer I have one of these and I wonder if you can try doing this little trick. Go to the device page and on the remote press the O button every couple of sec. and while doing that press the Configure button on the device page. If you see an LED change then stop pressing the O. Wait a few sec. and try the buttons. You will then have to wait a few hours as you stated to test it again. Also make sure the driver is the ERIA Dimmer Switch. Another thing I have done was to reset the device by holding the up arrow and down arrow together until you see the LED flash. That is a reset. Try adding back in (up close to the hub) and see if that works.
Mine has worked on first press no matter how long it has sat, so maybe above will fix it.
Staff have noted delays with initial button presses on these if they'be been idle for a while, and I think their guess (or maybe fact-based sure conclusion) is that it depends on what repeaters they route through and that some handle it better than others.
I've had pretty bad luck with these too, but I rarely noticed a delay. I've never liked how long you have to hold a button before it registers as a "held" event, but now both of mine fall off the network as soon as I navigate away from the device discovery page (where I've been several times to rejoin them). I've tried three new batteries, but I'm not 100% ready to blame the devices yet since their voltage is a bit low and I'm wondering if maybe I just got a bad batch (Battery Junction has never let me down before but my new lithiums usually measure around 3.2V and these are 3.1, though most work until 3.0 or even 2.9).
I would have never got them in the first place if I already had a Lutron Smart Bridge Pro, but with only one or two, they were a cheaper option than Picos considering the total cost. I would not do that again--but it is nice to have one to reset Hue bulbs if you don't have a Hue Dimmer (which I do, so I don't even need them for that).
Thanks for the suggestions. I've done the reset a few times, but no luck there. Haven't tried the Config / 'O' button trick, so will do that today and see what the results are like. Perhaps I'll battery swap them all with fresh ones as well just in case -- they are all less than a couple months old in the house, but who knows how long they sat before that.
@tjsawyer Just for the record I thought I would throw in something about the repeaters. I had a heck of a time getting the ERIA or the Sylvania remotes to work on first push until I eliminated the Peanut Outlets and replaced them with the Sylvania Smart+ outlets (72922-A) or (72922). Ever sense then I have had no problems with the ERIA remote on first push even after setting for hours.
Good to know. I had just ordered a few more peanuts to replace the Iris relays I eliminated, but was able to cancel in time after reading this. The other peanuts I have are only about a week old, so looks like I'll be returning those as well. Also just realized that my Sengled outlets don't repeat, so that isn't helping things. I guess I'll give the Sylvania ones or maybe the Ikea ones a try, but with all these caveats I am really starting to wonder if I should just go the Lutron route and be done with it. I don't like adding another bridge, but if it saves me a from having to add a ton of repeaters instead (and it just works once it is setup), then maybe that is the best option.
@tjsawyer You can always buy 1 of the sylvania outlets and try it. Unplug the others first just in case. If the remote starts working then you can plug in the other outlets (no peanuts) one at a time to see if they mess with the mesh. Just a thought.
I have 6 of the sylvania outlets and they all seem to play well together with ERIA. Sengled bulbs fire instantly around them too.
