Endless wait icons and incorrect status

For many devices on my HE, the status is correctly in sync with the devices, switches, dimmers, etc. For a few devices the dashboard is out of sync and seems very strange. I often get a wait icon that never corrects itself. I've tried repairing the zwave network, rebooting the hub.... what should I do to debug this?

What device? What firmware version on device? What Hub? What firmware version on Hub? Do you have many repeaters? If so, what types?

Do the devices update OK when you turn them on/off via the device page in the web UI?

No repeaters.

I’m having this exact same issue with just my zwave devices. The devices work instantaneously if I flip on and off from the individual device page. Assume the same for you?

It’s been suggested the status returns are not happening due to my network not having enough repeaters and these not being plus devices so I’m waiting for a few New ones to arrive. Will see if that will make a difference.

I’m not sure I get why on the device page it works fine and reports right but the dashboard does not. In fact a group of all the devices also works and displays right in the dash so I considered creating “individual” groups and displaying those instead.

I am unclear as to why I would need repeaters. Every device seems to be well within the range of the HE. Everything works correctly using direct device control, but the device status ends up 'pending' very often.

@gmaples you might want to watch this post to see if I get anything that helps. I feel your pain.

Last question ;) on dashboards

I hope we can get some support around this. Without reliability, the HE becomes worse than useless as it leads you believe that stuff is in a certain state when it's not

I had an issue with a GE smart switch yesterday, same issue. I would get the hour glass in my dashboard, and it was not responsive from a voice assistant.

If you go into your SETTINGS->Z-WAVE DETAILS, it should show the last time a message was sent and received from the device. If that date is blank or old, it might be helpful to reset/remove the device from the hub and re-pair it. That has worked for me

If the device works fine from the device page, then is is not a weak mesh. The dashboard talks to the device via the device page , and usually problems are not the mesh, it's something else, possibly network or HE related. I have a very good mesh and I'm not impressed with the dashboard

thats not 100% true .. i ve written device handlers and seen device handlers that change the on/off state immediately not waiting for the device to send back the status... as i mentioned.. it is true if the light comes on/off it is working.. but there are precularilties with non zwave plus light switches where they do not send status back without polling and that could easily be the issue and depending on the device handler it would show status immediately when not physically activated.

if you see a status message in the device messages than yes you are correct.. but you would have to go check the messges not just rely on the state changing.

it does look like the device in gmaples case above is zwave plus as it has the 0x5e indication..

it would be interesting to see if the status messgae in the device events is coming back immediately or not.. as you say there could be a hub issue.. my dimmers work ok..

also are you sure that is the correct device type i have seen fan controllers and dimmers but not a fan dimmer.. and i cannot find a ge 18756 device.. you may be using the wrong device handler..

It's not a 'fan dimmer' - it's a dimmer. It's a GE Enbrighten ZWave+ dimmer. It's for the light in my fan.

It's probably not a good idea to share your Hub ID/Mac address with the world. I am just a tint head

Update - I force deleted the offending device and then rebooted the hub and added it back in again. Now it seems to be working okay.

Mine are fixed too - had to set a rule to poll since they were not showing in the poller app.
