Ecolink FireFighter seems sporadic at times. Is there a hardwired interconnected smoke detector that is also Z-Wave or Zigbee

I've been searching for hours, and I'm amazed that nothing like this exists (apparently).

I have an Ecolink FireFighter, but I'm nervous that it's a bit unreliable. During installation, the tamper and audio detection worked fine. A few days later, after tweaking some notification rules, I wanted to test it so I set off a smoke detector in the house (which also tripped the smoke alarm at the detector next to the Ecolink FF) but no event was triggered. I did this over and over, but nothing. I saw temperature alerts from earlier that day, so the device was working. I then crawled up and opened the door/housing and the tamper event went off. At that point, smoke alarms were heard both with the door/housing off and on. I doubt it has a sleep mode, but it's almost like doing the tamper made it "wake up" or something.

So I'm back to searching for a real smoke detector with smart abilities.

Seems like everything is either battery/smart or hardwired/interconnected, but not both hardwired and also smart. I need both. I have a pretty big house. There's no way I'm going to replace dozens of smoke alarms with smart ones. Since they're all interconnected, only one needs to be smart.

Is there really no smart smoke detector that is also hardwired/interconnected?

Ecolink support has been pretty fast by the way. I sent them an email this morning, and Mike responded in a few hours with a long detailed reply about how it detects audio and different things to try. Glad to see that kind of support!

I have yet to have an issue with my ecolink firefighters. They always work when tested. You may want to use a beaming repeater near by. There aren't any in the us. Several threads about this. First alert has some wireless. ones. I would stick with the ecolink. Can you post a shot of your z-wave
details page?

Here's a shot of the Z-Wave Details page, scrolled to where the Ecolink is (bottom).

It's really close to the HE controller (same room, maybe 15 feet away). I put it there on purpose because there's a smoke detector in the same room as the controller and since the smoke detectors are all interconnected, why not use the closest one.

Yeah if there isn't an interconnected hardwired smoke detector, I'm gonna stick with this Ecolink probably. Seems like most people have good luck with it.

Just wish someone would come up with a hardwired one....

You have two ghosts in there (0x1a and 0x1b). You need to get rid of those as they are likely causing hell with your mesh. Probably why it and some other stuff haven't been reliable

If you're not insisting on using Z-Wave or Zigbee, then you could just take one of your smoke detectors and connect it to a Shelly UNI or i3 and get event notifications from those. You would still be able to keep all your smoke detectors and have a smart functionality. The only thing you would have to keep in mind, is that this smoke detector would need to be hard-wired instead of relying on batteries.

Hey thanks for that tip! I will do that. I have noticed lately exactly that - some unreliable stuff with this HE controller. I never thought to look for bad nodes.

I hate bringing up an old post. what Shelly UNI or i3 do you speak of? I am so tired of looking for smoke dectors that I am just gonna get a regular wired one.. but if I can wire it up to warn me via my HE I'd love the help

Sorry for the late answer. I'm talking about those devices:

The iยง is of the market, now, but the i4 should work, too
