Why am I loosing the ecobee intergration so much?
I've noticed error's in my logs today as well with ecobee....
Same here.
I know I could not connect to my Ecobee mobile app for most of today. I just tried to logon and the interface had changed to allow better "home " management. My guess is they (ecobee) were making changes on the backend.
Seems Ecobee has been having some real problems. Ecobee down? Current problems and outages | Downdetector
Ecobee's servers have been going down like crazy for months. I'm actually considering getting rid of it and going with a z-wave thermostat. Only thing is, I like the ecobee app as a backup when Hubitat is locked up. So, still considering it...I guess it will depend on how many more outages there are over the next month.
How often does hubitat lock up?
All depends on what custom code you're running. Search the forum for Lock up and you'll see varying opinions.
I think that I’ve only had 1 lock up in nearly 12 months but I’m very careful with what Apps and Drivers I choose / use.
Perhaps I was lucky in being able to add single sensors at a time, making sure things were stable and working before adding another. Days sometimes weeks apart.
No pressure from the family or external environment.
I am also considering going back to a simple zwave controllable thermostat. I've been very disappointed with the uptime of my EcoBee 3. In addition, my wife considers it very important to be able to make last minute changes from the keypad, and even there EcoBee has been up and down.
However, my prior experience with the Honeywell z-wave (not plus) version was also not very good. It would occasionally lose Hub (at that time it was SmartThings) connectivity. So, I'm looking around for a z-wave plus thermostat that has had good reliability, and easy to program from the keypad.
This is my exact thought to. To move away and have full local control.
Are you able to mimic the same behaviour the Ecobee gives you? For instance, utilize temp sensors in rooms and raise or lower the heat/air in the house? To level it off....
I have 4 Ecobee (three 3's and a 3 lite) and a pile of sensors (I think 12?) for sale right now . I ripped all my Ecobee out and put in zwave plus thermostats I can control locally...
I control vents based on thermostatOperatingState and when Ecobee would have its cloud farts, all my automations broke and rooms became unbalanced. After about the 20th time, I gave up. Too bad, I USED to like Ecobee. They have really fallen off the past 6 months.
I use GoControl GC-TBZ48 thermostats, and wrote a custom driver to expose the temperature calibration parameter. Then I wrote a small app to look at specified remote sensors once per minute and update the thermostat temp reading (up to +/-7 DegF) to match the remote sensor.
Not as simple 'out of the box' as Ecobee sensors (as it took some coding), but works very well and is 100% local.
Are you selling these individually? I’d buy 4 from you. PM me if so.
I will. Let me inventory everything this weekend and figure out some prices and get back to you.
I'ts been on my to-do list to get these things sold, so this gives me incentive.
#MeToo, but not that kind.
The Ecobee cloud is a joke, it's down daily. I recently ripped two of them out and replaced them with Pearls. Couldn't be happier.
That's the one that I was looking at @doug. How do you like it? Anything you can say in favor or against that might tip me over the edge?
I have no complaints at all with them, they're responsive and work well with HE. Of course, they're not as elegant looking as the Ecobee, but they're ok looking. Only thing I miss is Alexa integration. I sure hope Hubitat update the skill soon to support thermostats.
I like the Pearl, too.
I didn't pick that one, though, as I definitely needed to be able to adjust the temp sensor calibration/bias programmatically. And you can't on the Pearl with any driver I've seen.
The Google Assistant/Google Home thermostat integration with HE works great. Updated my thermostat driver to support that earlier this week.
So hopefully they will add Alexa support at some point.
When was that added? I've been traveling for work and have a lot of forum posts to catch up on. Damn work getting in the way of the really important stuff!!
