Ecobee 3 lite not showing up in Alexa

Spent some time looking, but couldn't find anything that answered my question

I just installed an ecobee 3 lite thermostat and paired it with hubitat using the the ecobee app in hubitat. I can see the device listed and everything is working as expected. I went into the the alexa integration app and selected the thermostat, clicked update, and to my disappointment I can't get it to show up in Alexa no matter how many times I yell "Alexa, discover new devices". I've paired about a dozen other sensors and lights and scenes and they all show up in alexa (normally without having to to do the whole discovery thing) as devices, but I can not get this one to. Am I missing something? or is it just not possible? I'd prefer not having to enable the skill in alexa if I don't have to.

The current Hubitat Skill for Alexa does not include support for thermostats. You may want to simply add the Ebobee Skill for Alexa instead.

ah, well at least I know I'm missing a step then.

Is there any word if it will in the future at some point?

I also have an Ecobee 3 lite paired to HE using the integration mentioned and to Alexa using the Ecobee skill. I don't think you would gain anything by being able to add the Ecobee device in HE to HE's Amazon Echo Skill. You would actually just be adding another layer and have duplicate thermostats in Alexa. One would be thru the Ecobee skill and one thru HE skill.

When it comes to ecobee, Ring, Rachio, etc., I disable them from The Hubitat-Alexa and just use the individually built Alexa skills instead. If you want to voice control them, it reduces the hops. And many things like cameras can actually be viewed on an Echo Show if you use the Alexa skill rather than the Hubitat integration. Unless Iโ€™m missing something, I donโ€™t see any benefit to using Hubitat for them.

Many users have requested thermostat support for Hubitat's Alexa Skill, but I am not sure where this request falls on Hubitat's 'to-do' list. Most of those users have 100% local thermostats, using Zigbee or Z-Wave. So, in their case, there is no other way to get these integrated with Alexa until Hubitat expands the skill to support them.
