Easy Question - Hue Switches

Hello,

New Hubitat user here...I have a (hopefully) Easy question. I just migrated all of my hue lights over, along with a hue dimmer switch. I have already created a lighting group and scene, but cant seem to tie the dimmer to the lighting group. Do I need to make a virtual copy of the dimmer switch?

The simplest way is to use the built-in Button Controllers App. If you got to the Apps page and choose to install a Built-In App, select Button Controllers. You should then be able to setup actions you want to perform on each button. Unfortunately HE does not natively support long presses on buttons 1 and 4 (on/off), in case you were wanting to use those.

Thanks a lot. This is exactly what I was looking for. I thought I had to control everything right in the "groups and scenes" app

No worries. Like anything there are a few places to do most things.

Yeah I'm finding that out as I go. I have these buttons functioning properly, but my dashboard is not reflecting the correct state, even after refresh...If I add a single light to dashboard (instead of the group) and turn it off/on with a switch, the dashboard shows the state correctly.

I'm using the group to avoid turning on 4 lights manually. Do I need to use 1 bulb as a "switch" and have the other 3 copy that, or is there a more logical way?

Groups are the way to do it. If you open the group device edit page and turn the group on / off using the hue button, does the group show as being turned on / off?

On the dashboard what template are you using for the tile?

Group settings does not show an on/off state

Devices =bedroom lights (group creation)
Template = switch

Might be a bad time to bring this up, but many people leave their hue lights on their hue hub and simply use the hue integration app within HE. Zigbee lightbulbs make crappy repeaters so a lot of us choose to keep our zigbee ZLL lightbulbs on a separate zigbee network than our zigbee ZHA sensors.

So you just get the hue integration app, then devices will show up in other apps like rule manager? I'm thinking about removing all of my devices from groups and scenes and sticking with hue. I didn't like the idea of losing my hue tap switches anyways.

Yes. Hue integration is the way to go. It’s simple and works well.

I held off for a long time, and you are right, the general recommendation is to keep them on a Hue bridge to keep them on a separate Zigbee mesh due to the differences in the Zigbee protocol, amongst other things. I eventually migrated mine to a second HE hub solely setup for lighting with contact sensors and other devices still paired to my old C-4 hub, but available through Hub-Mesh for use in lighting rules. This opened up many more possibilities in lighting rules than I have available to me on my Hue bridge. Just something to think about...

There are actually two apps for hue integration. There's the stock app, which works fine with bulbs but does not support all Hue devices (outlets, for instance), and then there's the CoCoHue integration, which has support for more devices. I actually have a spot where the only thing that will work reliably is a Hue ZLL outlet, so I use both the native Hue integration and CoCoHue. You also have flexibility whether to define groups within Hue and use them as a single device in HE, or define them in HE, or both. There are advantages and disadvantages to both.
