Hi, all. I feel like I am constantly removing and re-including some device. The latest is my front door lock. It has a red icon, and stopped responding. Sucks particularly because of the rules, etc it is attached to. What makes this constantly happen? Is there an easier fix than remove and reinstall?
It is frustrating because my old school Insteon never did this Fortunately I sold the house just before Smarthome went tango uniform, and it worked great while I owned it.
It has occurred with Zooz, Lutron, Smartwings, and Yale locks. The current one is a Yale lock that is 7’ away from the c-8 hub. Hub is under a bench with no wall between it and the lock.
It can’t be this hard/unreliable.
Thanks!
SC
Please provide your hub model (C7, C8, etc.) and its platform version from Settings>Hub Details.

You are right. And they have been largely removed for different reason. The only reason I used them is because I had a bunch that were overage from an old pico/RMJ project I had done. Family hates the buttons. I should not have included them in my message.
These questions are included for a reason...can you answer them?
Post a screenshot, it may take multiple screenshots, of your Z-Wave details screen under settings. Make sure it's a screenshot Don't try and just copy the text and paste the text.
@danabw would be the appropriate person to guide you here because he's written a detailed guide on ghost removal. On a C-8 Pro, the process is made simple by switching to ZWaveJS. However that option may not be available on C-8 hubs.
In any event, if you have a z-wave stick, you can use the procedure outlined in @danabw's guide:
I eliminated all but one that would not go away. I went into “devices” and locked the lock. Tried to unlock and it didn’t work. Looked at the device list, and now have two new devices called “generic zwave lock” that when you go to the device, Hubitat says “device does not exist.”
What did you do to remove the ghosts, did you enable Z-WaveJS using the endpoint, or do the Refresh/Removes w/your hub as-is (which would be running the ZipGateway Z-Wave platform)?
If the lock devices have been removed from your Z-Wave Details screen, you can just use the Remove option fro the Device page for the locks and the removal should then be complete.
If any instances of the lock is still showing on the Z-Wave Details page then you aren't done yet.
A standard troubleshooting step when having issues adding or removing devices (or dealing w/radio issues in general) is to do the following to restart/clear the Z-Wave & Zigbee radios:
Shut down the hub
Wait for red LED on hub, then pull power
Wait 30s
Restore power
That will restart your radios (hub reboot won't do that) and that can help w/doing things like removing devices from the Z-Wave Details screen, or when having difficulty pairing devices, etc.
Zwave devices never "drop" from the network, it is not possible unless the device is factory reset or the device itself is faulty. They retain the network ID and will keep sending messages to that network ID until they are excluded or factory reset.
Also you have a C8-Pro I see, are you running the Zwave JS gateway or legacy ZIP? You can tell based on the "switch" button on the zwave details. Based on your Route Changes showing a number and not N/A it looks like you are probably on Legacy.
Also, FYI, when you post the zwave details you need to click the refresh details button first, wait a few seconds, and refresh the page. Otherwise the stats are useless. This is covered in the "READ FIRST" post.
Hi! There were a few ghosts that were persistent, so I switched to js and deleted them. At that point a LOT of things didn't work, but I was able to remove the ghosts. Waited till morning to see if some background activity perhaps hadn't completed yet and it would resolve. Still didn't work, so I switched back to legacy. Reset (same way described in your post) and the ghosts are gone, but the lock still doesn't work. All of the other devices came back fine.
Glad most of your devices are back. Remove the battery pack from the lock, wait two minutes, and power it back up again. Make sure the batteries are good (>1.45 VDC each).
Put brand new batteries in the lock. Manually lock / unlock to trigger the lock to send out reports. Try running the rebuild route on it ONCE. See if that can complete or fails. Refresh the stats and see if a message count populates.
Then I would reboot the hub to reset the zwave stats. Give it at least a day of normal activity. Then refresh the stats and post the entire Zwave details and hub uptime. Instructions are in the READ FIRST post.
