I have a Z-Wave Dome Water Valve which I just tried pairing with Hubitat. It paired as a 'Device' so I figured you'd like the device info so it can be included in a future release.
I was able to change the Driver to 'Generic Z-Wave Switch' and the valve does actuate properly.
'On' = 'Open'
'Off' = 'Closed'
It would be nice to have a Driver that supports both the 'Switch' and 'Valve' Capabilities.
I could probably simply port @krlaframboise Kevin's ST DTH to Hubitat, but if you've got the hood open anyway, why not add it as a natively supported device, right?
The driver for the Dome Water valve has Close, Off, On, Open. How do we get it to use Closed and Open versus the On and Off in the dashboard as well as snapshot? thanks
May I please ask why? I prefer to have the flexibility of using the Switch Capability on a Valve Device without having to create a virtual switch and then map it to the real valve device with an app. For example, Alexa can operate a switch, but may not be able to open and close a valve (although i haven’t tried that, yet!). How is having both capabilities posing a problem? Is it just the fact that it shows up in the list of switches? And thereby causes the possibility for confusion?
@ogiewon I think it speaks for itself. A valve is not an on/off device. It is either open or closed. The use of a virtual switch is not needed nor should it be used. A switch is a switch and a valve is a valve. If Alexa cannot open or close it then that is the fault of Alexa.
@razorwing Oh, I completely understand that "purist perspective"... I just believe we live is a world of "workarounds" already. I was truly curious as to how is negatively impacted you personally in using the Hubitat platform. That does not "speak for itself", IMHO. Please know that I am not trying to be argumentative. I am truly interested in how removing the switch capability from the Dome Water Valve Driver will improve your ability to use the platform. From my perspective, doing so only has downsides for me, which I provided an example thereof.
@ogiewon I don't believe it has to do with having a purist perspective it is merely simplifying it and calling it what it is. It having on/off instead of open/close (or a choice) does not impact me I could care less but it is still wrong. It is like having a switch be open or closed. "Alexa" close the dining room light! Removing the switch capability does not improve my capability to use HE it is merely common sense that a valve opens and closes not go on or off.
@krlaframboise Ok, I see what you are saying. I told it to close the valve and it said turning off the valve. I told it to open the valve and it said turning on the valve. So GH and Alexa need to add open and close it appears. I don't use them for that so that is why I didn't know about needing the on and off.
Pretty much all actuators that have 2 states should support the switch capability to ensure that the device can be used with all existing and future integrations.
