Maybe a silly question, but. I have logging turned on for all devices and apps. Things are running smoothly so I don't really need it. So, I was wondering if excessive logging slows things down any by using resources.
I have logging on 24x7 for most of my 4 hubs. Eventually I get to a place where I don't want to look at logs anymore and I close out those tabs. The next day they are all back on again
I don't notice any slowness EXCEPT when there's tens of thousands of entries and I wish to select a specific device or go back to all. It takes multiple minutes to display, usually. Often I'll just close that log tab and start over.
So is there any reason NOT to enable logging on everything? I just got my Hubitat and have noticed it's off by default when setting things up.
Also is there documentation on what each different type of logging is? For example, in this simple automation rule I set up I have two toggles and I'm not sure what the difference is:
It is just pure and simple clutter, especially if you are trying to diagnose something. It makes it harder to pick out the important stuff.
As you fill the logs up, it purges old events. If you have too much logging on, you only get say maybe an hour or two of logs. On mine, I can usually go back many days if needed.
