Disco motion detectors

Last week my pant[ed: r]y light came on unexpectedly. I wondered what the cat was up to since she normally doesn’t trigger it.

More recently the light would come on for 30 seconds. Then it would turn off and immediately turn back on. It would keep repeating this cycle. I pressed the configure button on the driver and it stopped for a few days.

I figured the sensor was going out and would need to be replaced. Then my living room lights started to do the same thing at night. I checked the battery status and one was reading 12 and the other 0. I replaced the batteries and all is well again.

I have a bunch of the Iris V2 sensors around the house. I never knew they had a disco mode. :joy:

I guess that’s why it’s posted in the Lounge.

That one really cracked me up! I had to read it a few times to make SURE that is what was typed....
Funny!

This won't really help, but I have had something similar with my Hue motion sensors / lights, even with them connected to my Hue bridge. Randomly at 2-3am, sometimes months apart, they will randomly trigger. I check the Philips Hue App on my phone and the sensors show as having triggered, so it's nothing on the HE side getting messed up. Sometimes it may happen 2-3 times. And I don't have any little critters of any description that could be running around triggering the sensors....

Can only put it down to some kind of interference or "ghost" packets flying around... weird.

Sounds like @lairdknox is sneaking into your house and putting his old batteries in your motion sensors...

That would explain the 2-3 triggers...

I can only make it out there every few months and I have a lot of batteries to get rid of.

The funny thing is that the living room lights only went into disco mode when the mode was set to bedtime. Normally there is a delay after the sensor goes inactive before the lights turn off. For bedtime mode the delay is set to 0. So any other time the lights just stayed on and since I was in the room I didn’t suspect anything was wrong.
