Disabling an Inovelli VZW31-SN Physical Switch (internal relay)

Hardware:

Hubitat C8-Pro
Inovelli VZW31-SN

Everything works great. I am using the updated V2 Inovelli driver from the Hubitat Package Manager.

The issue:

I have a tall toddler who will wake up in the middle of the night and act like he is in a rave, flicking the switches on and off. I want to get a rule set up to disable the physical switch/relay so he can't play with it anymore. Everyone is showing me screenshots of the LZW30/31 that has an option to disable local control, but I have a VZW31-SN and it is not showing up under preferences like it is for LZW31. Can anyone help me find this option or tell me if it is available without using Smart Bulb mode? I was under the impression that the VZW31-SN was the replacement for the LZW31 and if it is, I am hoping this option was not removed.

I appreciate you all, and thanks in advance!

Use an Announcement to say loudly: "The Monster has been called. Arriving in 5 minutes. Return to bed to cancel the Monster."

Of course that assumes you have an Audio device nearby.

Sadly, there is no idea audio device in his room. Also, the last thing I want is to make him think there is a monster.

When mine were that age, they'd say what's that noise? was it a monster? instead of telling them there's no such thing, I just told them "I didn't order a monster for tonight. They don't work for free you know." They had seen Monsters, Inc. enough times to believe...

My VZW31-SN has that option (52. Smart Bulb Mode) under Preferences on the Inovelli Community Driver:

As I said in my original post, I don't want to use the smart bulb option. I am looking to disable the switch WITHOUT continuous power flowing to the light and having to turn the light off via Zwave. Also, the Smart Bulb mode simply changes the function of the rocker to not control the relay. If I should want to eventually use a smart bulb, the rocker would control the smart bulb functionality and the rocker could be used to turn the switch smart bulb on and off.

I literally want to the rocker to be absolutely useless. This is the option in the LZW31-SN that I am trying to replicate.

You are absolutely correct — Seems I was confused when I provided my response!

I think what you are looking for is command 256 (Local Protection):

Do you not have that as an option in your device driver?

Thinking outside of the box, why not use smart bulb mode. Then use 3x or 4x taps to turn the light on and off via a rule or button controller.

You would still have some local control for you, but the kid wouldn't know how to do that and would be unlikely to get the sequence correct.

You seem to have a different driver than I am using. I am using the V2 driver from the HPM app.

Below is what my preferences look like in the numerical ordering that they appear. I have nothing beyond 162. After that it is all logging, trace and debugging options.

May I ask, where did you get your driver or what version you are using? I have included my driver below as well.

Looks like mine is dated: 2024-03-21

From HPM’s “View Apps and Drivers” screen, I get this version number (Gen 2):
v24.3.21

Interesting. I have this:

  • Inovelli Drivers (Gen 2) Documentation
    • Inovelli Dimmer 2-in-1 Red Series VZW31-SN v24.8.7 (driver)

Blue vs Red

Blue is 24.3.21
Red is 24.8.7

According to the HPM manifest.

Interesting. Thank you. @Sebastien are you running the Blue or Red?

Good catch @csteele! I have 1 red, but it hasn’t been installed yet. I missed that « M » in my driver name vs the Red’s « W ».

That said, I wonder why that functionality is in the Blue series, but not the Red series.

Great question! I have a ticket in with Inovelli to find out! The only reason I bought them was because I had the ability to straight out disable the rocker.

Just letting you know they updated the driver to provide the functionality. I noticed an issues on the parameters page under the device where the parameter doesn't update on that screen when it is changed by a rule. This only applies to Parameter 156 which is the disabling of the physical switch. I change other parameters and they update.
