I want to be able to use a smart dimmer switch (like Inovelli Red Series) to control a dumb light that is connected to a dimming module (like a fibaro or Shelly). Is this possible?
My issue is that I have an existing switch leg that is feeding a lighted mirror (which can't be controlled via a dimmer) and a vanity light that is dimmable but connected to the same switch leg as the mirror. I was planning to rewire this so that the power is always hot to the lighted mirror (which has onboard power controls, and then install a dimming module like fibaro or shelly upstream of the vanity light.
Then install a dimmer switch where the old vanity light switch was that would be able to control the shelly / vanity light via hubitat.
Could I use the Inovelli Red Dimmer as a button controller (1 up, 2 up, etc.) and as a dimmer, hold to adjust the brightness, via the shelly / fibaro dimming module?
I don't know if this is possible but wanted to see if anybody had experience with anything like this before I buy all of the materials.
Thanks in advance for any help you can provide!
Jim
Yes - you would put the switch in smart bulb mode so that it always supplies power to the dimming module.
You then setup an app (or rule) to dim up and down based on your hold up or hold down. If you are able to find a Z-Wave dimmer module, then you could bind the two. This would bypass the hub for dimming, but they would still be connected to it for automation. (I had this setup for a smart bulb.)
You could use the config button to turn on/off the lighted mirror.

Thanks for the reply! I felt like it should work but haven't been able to find any previous use cases similar to mine.
Did you use a z wave dimming module that you associated with a smart bulb or did you have a z wave switch that you associated with a smart bulb?
I associated an Inovelli Z-Wave switch with an Inovelli Z-Wave bulb. Worked great! Unfortunately, I had to move my dimmer following some small renovations, so I had to unlink themβ¦
Well, I was able to get the Fibaro 2 dimmer working with Rules from the Inovelli Red Dimmer, but I was unable to get the association to work. I associated groups 2 and 4 for control and dimming, but the Fibaro was not responding to the Red dimmer at all. I had them both at Unsecure or S0. Finally gave up and just used Rules. I may revisit it again but at least the functionality works. Thanks for the help. The fibaro dimmer 2 works nicely but it is large and the screw terminals leave much to be desired!
