I updated my C7 to the latest software and Z-Wave controller firmware per the 2.3.1 YouTube Video release the other day. I was attempting to update my Aeotec Range extenders so I uploaded the newest firmware 1.05 and when I tried to click update z wave firmware it fails with an Unexpected Error. Looking in the error logs I see the following for the 4 attempts that I made. I didn't see this item listed anywhere on the community and I'm not sure what to do in terms of next steps.
I've had good luck updating my 4 RE7s all "in-place' using the built-in HE updater (done it at least a couple times since buying them when they were released), but the updates are slow going... Like with all touches to your z-wave setup, patience is key.
Thanks but what I'm saying is that I'm not getting the opportunity to try. The Device Firmware Updater Tool fails as soon as I click on the Update Z Wave Firmware button. I have the firmware file loaded but I don't even get the opportunity to select a device etc. It fails before that. In the latest release video that was one of the highlighted items so I would assume it works or I am doing something wrong. Or is the consensus that it doesn't work yet and I should use the ZStick method still? Thanks, Joe
There only are two buttons. One to upload firmware and one to what I assume would be to select an appropriate device and then program it. When I press the update button
That is the correct place to try the update. If you go back into Firmware file manager, is there a file listed there that you uploaded??
Try doing a controlled hub shutdown from the Settings menu (not just a reboot) pull the wall plug and wait a minute or so and restart the hub. Thy the updater again. Does it still fail?
I get it and I've tried unsuccessfully several times in the past to use it before. I was encouraged by the 2.3.1 video that all of the shortcomings were fixed. Anyway, some combination of deleting the app, performing a controlled shutdown, removing power for 30 seconds, rebooting, reloading the app, deleting and reloading the firmware file at least got me to the point where I could try it. Anyway, after about 10 minutes it looks like it completed but I had to power cycle the repeater to get the new firmware version to show. It was a painful couple of hours but at least it worked as expected. Thanks for all of the comments. Joe
There are some devices that get factory reset after a firmware update - something to watch out for, because if one re-includes them before first excluding them, it'll create a stranded device that adversely affects the z-wave network.
I didn't exclude or include. The Range Extender 7 was on the network with firmware 1.03 and I used the firmware updater tool to upgrade to 1.05 in place. I did a range test to the other powered devices post upgrade and they all check out as before.
