I searched for "device firmware update notifications" and didn't see the answer I was looking for...

How can I get notified about new firmware for my devices?

Is it a per device thing I have to search for?

Pretty much. For Z-Wave firmware, you'll have to obtain it yourself (typically from the device manufacturer). Hubitat has firmware for a select number of zigbee devices.
