I am aware of and use the Device Activity Check app. It works great for devices that update their "Last Activity At" information when that device is used for something. I have been using it for battery operated devices for years because they typically "check in" every 24 hours. And for most of my devices, both wired and battery, that works just fine. But I have a bunch of devices that only have "activity" every weeks/months and these don't really work with the Device Activity Check app. And when one these devices occasionally "fail" and stop responding, it takes me quite a while to diagnose the problem(s). I want to be able to test every device (about 60 devices) on my network every day to see if they are still responding.
So I want to be able to use a Rule to either somehow "test" that the Device is still responding, or, "force" an update to the Last Activity At value for devices and then use the Device Activity Check app to find any failed device.
How can I have a Rule test any given (non battery operated) Device to test if it is still responding? Or, have a Rule to update its Last Activity At value without actually sending that device a proper command that it will respond to?
Assuming I can write a Rule to do this, what is the syntax for the Action?
Thank you all for being so much smarter than me.
