Deleting lights from default room

I have imported lots of lights into HUBITAT (v8), but somehow, I have duplicated them in the correct room AND a default room… this is causing clutter in the app… I can’t see how to delete them from this default room?? Any ideas?

Hubitat does not put devices into Rooms unless you do so yourself. Are you really talking about the hub, or is there a piece of information missing from your post--for example, are you talking about integrating Hubitat devices into a third-party app, like Apple Home/HomeKit and this is happening there?

Yes... you are right... on the device list I have duplicate devices listed in various Apps, hueBridge, AdvancedHue, CocoHue... maybe I am confusing myself and should limit the number of Apps I use??

A

Now I'm even more confused.

What devices, and where exactly are they listed? A screenshot may help explain better.

If you are using multiple different Hue integrations, northing is stopping you from adding the same device multiple different ways. That could cause one "problem." But it still doesn't explain Rooms if you mean the Hubitat feature. Hue does have a Room/Zone/group feature, and most integrations let you import those into Hubitat as well. On Hue, you can add a device to,multiple zones (but I think just one room), though that's not a Hubitat issue per se.

Ha Ha... :upside_down_face:, takes a Newbie to confuse an expert... :face_with_hand_over_mouth:

This is part of my device list, but replicated for all rooms and all lights... each one is in hueBridge group and AdvancedHue group &c...

It looks like you setup 2 to 3 different Hue integrations and have brought all your devices in multiple times. So you need to pick which integration you want and then remove the other one. Or you can mix and match if one works better for certain things, but you would want to remove the duplicate devices from one of the integrations to clean things up.

Was going to say the above--this is basically the issue you mentioned out a couple posts back. There's nothing wrong with it, but it's not normally something I'd recommend unless you need something from one integration the other doesn't provide (though I can't imagine the built-in integration would be one of those...).

It can also contribute to load on your hub if you're using polling (the only option for the built-in integration and the default in at least CoCoHue) or eventstream (available in both the custom integrations you have) -- and most people are probably using at least one of these features -- so that's another reason you may not want to, besides confusion.

Check the "In use by" section on each device detail page before removing any you don't want to see what apps are using it, then swap it out for a device you want to keep if so. Once you've removed the device from any apps it's in use by, it's safe to remove either the device itself or (if true for all devices created by this integration) the integration itself.

thanks Bert & jtp...

Am sure there is a good coding reason for this, but it seems counter intuitive to me... why isn't the hub set up to 'register' each device once only in the Hubitat environment and then (if you need more than one App) that each app can call on any device in the device list?!?) You'll probably say that if I want to do this then either get Hubitat to change or write my own hub software

I am thinking that in a little while... when I get used to which apps I need... (and before I get too much more 'stuff') that I will collate a list of my 'must haves' and then wipe and restart with only the devices actually linked to an app... as you suggest... :frowning:

For each app you use, it will create an id of sorts for hubitat to use. So using the built in hue integration will create an id for your bathroom switch, but then you add cocohue and bring in that same switch it will create another switch with a different id... ...(I'm being really simplistic here as I don't do programming myself, I leave that to people like @bertabcd1234 and @jtp10181) So really Using just one integration is all that's needed. Use the one with the most features,

The hub does not know those are the same devices, they were imported from different integrations apps. For all the hub knows you have 3 different Hue hubs with devices that have the same names.

Same thing would happen if there was a third party Hue integration for Alexa or Apple HomeKit and you set both up, you would get duplicated devices.
