I have a fully function C7 up and running at my house - It has been in use for a couple of years now. I don't have any other hubs.
I somehow managed to delete the mobile device associated with my hubitat account and the hub so I don't have a device to receive notifications from the hub.
I couldn't find a way to re-associate or add my mobile device to HE and the hub (no obvious instructions in documentation or community).
I managed to deregister the hub thinking I could re-register it on the mobile app and then it might ask me if I wanted to associate this mobile device with the hub.
"Find hubs" on the mobile app could only find the hub via specifying the MAC address and allowed me to connect to the hub BUT NOT REGISTER IT TO MY ACCOUNT.
I tried again from my PC. Again I could find the hub but only by specifying the MAC address. I connected to the hub on the PC and it gave me the option to register the hub to my account. I did this. Now when I log into my account on the PC it shows the hub as registered to my account.
When I log on to the same account on my mobile device ("Hubitat Elevation" app for android) IT SAYS NO HUBS ARE REGISTERED TO THE ACCOUNT. How can that even occur.
I decided to uninstall HE from my mobile device and reinstall it. To my total frustration I discovered TWO seemingly active HE apps, one called "Hubitat Elevation" and one called "Hubitat Mobile" with no obvious description of which is appropriate for my mobile device (both are listed as compatible with my Android OnePlus 7T Oxygen/Android 12 phone). I had been using the "Hubitat Elevation" app all along. I tried the "Hubitat Mobile" app. and it discovered a hub but the IP address was different (I only have one hub on the LAN with a static/reserved IP address. And when I tried to "claim" this hub in the app, the "claim" button appeared dead. So which of these two apps should I be using and why are there two seemingly active apps?
So to summarize, I can connect to the hub on a browser using its IP address and fully manage it (devices, rule machine, room lighting, etc.) from either the PC or my phone. In my Hubitat account it shows the hub registered to the account when I'm on the PC but it shows no registered hubs for the same account when I log into it on "Hubitat Elevation" app on my phone.
And finally, if this mess can be sorted out, I still don't see how to associate my phone to HE so I have a "mobile device" in the hub "devices" so the hub can send notifications to my phone.
Can anyone help me sort out this mess with simple step-by-step instructions?
I really appreciate your help as I am quickly loosing all my hair!
Perhaps you can do the same with the google play store. Or check the settings of the app installed on your device. The version # is probably listed.
Believe it or not, there is a reason why two different app versions exist at the same time, but that’s not entirely relevant right now.
Once you’ve determined which version of the app you were using before you accidentally deleted the mobile device from your hub, and de-registered your account, please confirm here.
Next steps may depend on which version of the app you were using. I suspect it may have been version 1, if you didn’t download version 2 sometime within the last year.
Below are the 2 apps on goggle play. I was using the first one, "Hubitat Elevation" and that is what I have installed now. That one says there is no hub registered to the account and no apparent way to register it. However, logging into the account from my PC on a web browser, it shows that the hub is registered to the account.
The version info is presumably there in the play store, if you still care enough to check it. I think you might have version 2 there, but I’m not sure.
The reason there are two apps is that the version 2 app was significantly different enough from version 1 that it wasn’t just an upgrade/update of the same old app.
They weren’t intended to co-exist indefinitely, but since the version 2 app was released, some android and iOS users have noticed functionality they had in the old app that either doesnt yet work right in the new app, or isn’t there at all yet.
The staff have said they’d extend the planned sunset of the version 1 app til they’ve squashed enough bug reports for version 2.
Yes, I am and have been using the new version, 2.0.4. I followed the steps suggested and everything looks good. My hub is registered to my account and my mobile app "device" in the hub "devices" was created, but when I send a notification from the hub to my phone it doesn't show up on my phone. I've carefully checked the HE app permissions as well as all the app notification settings on my phone so I don't see why there would be a problem. The hub logs and events for my mobile "device" indicate the notification was sent but my phone indicates no recent notifications have been send from the HE app. I wonder If a nonfunctional mobile "device" got created.
The version info is there in the Play Store but it's not displayed at the top-level w/the apps, you have to drill down one level into details for the apps to see the version, so easier to be confused on Android about which is the higher version.
Logging out (as well as force stopping the app, clearing caches and rebooting phone and hub) and then logging back in retains the use of the non functioning mobile app "device"; it does not ask if I want to create a new one.
My best option if I want to waste more time on this would be to delete the mobile "device" from the hub, log out of the account (on all devices) and have the account deleted by Hubitat powers-that-be personnel, then create a new account and start over. I think I'll just give up on using notifications. Although use of a third party notification handling app may solve the problem, I already have too many apps and I don't need yet another.
I’m not sure that’s the best option. I can understand this must be frustrating, but my next suggestion should take about 30 seconds or less to try.
From the mobile app’s Home tab, tap on the name of your hub near the top of the screen. Then tap on “switch to another hub” and select your hub. Does it then present you with the option to use a previous mobile device or create a new one?
I tried that earlier. If the mobile app "device" exists in the hub "devices" then there is no prompt for using or creating a new one. If I delete the "device" from the hub then "switch to another hub" prompts me to create a new "device" and that new device won't receive notifications.
OK. Not elegant but I have a solution. I created a new HD account and added it as "guest". I deleted my mobile "device" from the hub and logged out of HD. I logged into the "guest" account and it asked me to create a new mobile app "device". The newly created device receives notifications! . AS LONG AS I KEEP THE HE MOBILE APP LOGGED INTO THE GUEST ACCOUNT. If I log out of the guest account and log into my original account (admin status) it does not ask me to create a new mobile "device" but I don't receive notifications from the existing "device" created by the guest account. When I re-login to the guest account I again receive notifications.
So something is fowled up in the internals of my original account - that might be something the hubitat team could look into to see if there is an obscure bug (or incorrect handling of the account in some unusual scenario that I managed to stumble into).
Meanwhile, I can do everything I need to do from the guest account, admin status is not needed for day-to-day tasks and operation. but of course I could change my guest account to be the admin account but why push my luck - "if it ain't broke, don't fix it".
