I seemed to have found an issue in Rule Machine when using the log action with %device% and %value%:

I'm pretty sure that's the expected behavior: action logging shows you the action that's actually running, as written. For a log action, you'd see the actual logged text in the output, of course, as you also do.
Oops my mistake I had debug logging turned on and saw the wrong record. I turned off the debug logging for action and got the variables in the log. 
I guess I get ranked down this week.
