Dashboards - Legacy Vs. New

I am using the Legacy Dashboard links on my iPhone. They provide me with the status of my devices. I would like the access to my devices to be somewhat secure, but really, if someone gained access, all they could do was turn lights on and off.

What is difference between Legacy and New? Should I change to new?

in my humble opinion the new is just easy to setup for people but more functionality limited than the older legacy dashboards..

Depends on what you are talking about.

ALL of my current dashboards have links that can either be legacy or new. The newer support more security. But, that is just the links to access them. The dashboards are the same regardless. I prefer legacy because it was easier to use links to other dashboards. The big security thing was disallowing links to other dashboards which could allow someone to get into any dashboard you have.

Legacy vs. 'new' on same dashboard

If you are talking about the newer EZ dashboards, then that is more what @kahn-hubitat was talking about.

There has been a lot of stuff developed for the legacy dashboard to fill some of the earlier gaps in its capabilities, much of that is still relevant. I'd say the analogy of legacy dashboards being for power users and EZ dashboards being for new\beginner users is probably apt.

Sounds like there’s still confusion about what the OP is referring to.

I suspect @tray_e is on the right track, and the OP isn’t referring to easy dashboards at all.

“Legacy” has a specific meaning wrt hubitat dashboards, and it doesn’t mean “all dashboards that came before easy dashboards were released.”

Legacy dashboard links were deprecated years before easy dashboards were released.

It might help if @dean can clarify.

Yeah, the old-school dashboard vs legacy link feels like a pre-2020 thing... When they introduced additional security stuff, or some other features that made the old-school link no longer "ideal", but did not want to make the older links completely invalid if people still wanted / needed to use them.

Aka 2019 .

The stoneage....

Note I’m not sure what my Dashboards are. They are certainly more than 5 years old. And they allow linking from one Dashboard to another.

All of my older dashboards are the same as my newer dashboards. I don't recall moving them from another app (but I may have - it was 5 years ago).

All of mine are basically the same. They just have links labeled as "legacy" links. I used those because I had set up several shortcuts on my wife's phone, and they all have dashboard links to each other so that she doesn't have to close, then reopen another shortcut when switching.

The "new" links allow you to prevent using the logo button to see other dashboards and I think prevent directly linking other dashboards in the same way that the legacy ones did. Again, it has been long enough ago, I do not recall the specifics. But my memory was that you had to set up the links differently for them to open.

I just know you could give someone a link to the new dashboards that doesn't have a login, and let them have access to ONLY that dashboard (So kids - visitors - in-laws, etc)
