Dashboard switch not lighting up and getting an hour glass

Hello! Recent Wink convert here (you've probably never heard that one before!).

I have mostly Lutron switches (got those converted over fine with Lutron Hubs/Hubitat), and one GE/Jasco 40 Amp Outdoor Switch. This switch in the dashboard doesn't light up when I turn it on (even though the physical light turns on) and also it has a hour glass that appears in the dashboard on the switch. The physical switch works fine (turns on and off by pressing the dashboard switch and also with rules/timer functions on and off).

Do I need a polling app because of the age of the GE switch z wave technology?

When you go to the device's settings page, and look in the upper right corner there are "States". Do these States follow what you do with the switch either physically, or on the settings page by using the on/off buttons?

While you are on that page, scroll down to the very bottom and see if there is an incluster of either 0x5E or 0x25. Having one or the other can make a difference whether you need polling or not.

Last, what driver (Device Type) is it using?

As @aaiyar pointed out, yes. It's because it's z-wave and not z-wave plus. I think older z-wave stuff and misconceptions about how it works is one of the irritations that former Wink users find out the hard way. (I was no exception)

It does follow the correct "state" as far as being on or off. (most of the time)

  • deviceType: 20292
  • zwNodeInfo: D3 9C 00 04 10 01 25 27 86 72 32 68 23
  • deviceId: 12337
  • inClusters: 0x25,0x27,0x86,0x72,0x32
  • manufacturer: 99

When I try to use the Wave Poller app the switch is not found under "Select Switches to Poll".

Thanks

while polling is a good idea, I think it's something else. I've seen the same behavior with Zigbee devices and Z-wave plus devices. It's another annoyance and I don't use dashboards because of this, other than a single HSM tile to disarm from inside the car.
I also had an inability, like you, to enable polling on older devices. Maybe it's not supported? It was an older Eaton z-wave switch

Which driver is it using? I would recommend doing this:

  1. Change to the built-in driver called "Generic Z-Wave Switch".
  2. Click the "Configure" button on the device page.
  3. Open the Z-Wave poller app. It should appear as an available device.

That is definitely a Z-wave and not Z-wave PLUS device.

Do what Aaiyar said above and see what happens.
