I have not been able to figure out why my C-4 hub stops responding after 3 or 4 days. So I installed an app to restart my hub every 3 days and have not had hub issues. I however have an issue with my dashboards stop updating after a restart of the hub. I have to go in and manually refresh the dashboards to get them to update there status.
I am using the app "Rebooter" and choose to Restart instead of Rebooting. I don't think that is the issue.
Is there something that I can add to force the dashboards to refresh after a restart.
On a C4 (and C3), I would suggest reboot vs. restart. This has to do with the kernel and kernel settings on these platforms. (ie you really want to to reset all the memory, not just some of it).
I don't know the answer on the dashboard.
So I not following exactly, or maybe you left this out.
So to duplicate this you are:
- Restarting (might be wrong choice)
- Hub boots
Here is where it is fuzzy.
- You did NOT close the dashboard on something like a tablet or whatever???
- The dashboard WAS closed, but upon reopening it then it fails?
- What about the app?
- What browser(s) is this?
- Does it happen on other browsers?
I have installed a community app called "Rebooter" with in that app there is an option to restart rather then reboot. I have chosen to restart my hub, maybe I should do a reboot instead.
As for my dashboards, I have several android tablets around the house. I have gone to the dashboard link in android chrome. So in the morning when I go over to the dashboard they all show the status of items when the hub restarted. I have placed a shortcut to current dashbaord on the dashboard to facilitate a refresh. I have to click on that or actually refresh the browser in order for it to start updating again.
As for on my PC. I am using a chrome browser and logged into the hub, choose dashboards and what ever dashboard I have. Same thing doesn't mater which dashboard I still have to refresh it on the PC.
All of my dashboards have a 2 second LAN refresh Interval and a 5 second cloud refresh.
I will switch to Reboot and see if that helps. but I almost think that it takes longer then 2 seconds to do the reboot/restart and the browser does its refresh and doesn't connect so it just stops trying.
That statement alone scares me a bit. I will let others chime in here, but from what I have seen multiple open dashboards constantly refreshing can (does?) cause slowdowns. Maybe that is your whole issue and need to reboot?
I am not sure that a webpage can persist through a reboot. I don't think it can though. Even if it did persist, wouldn't the browser just cache the page so you are right back to where you started? So to me, this is expected behavior. Not saying it is desired behavior though.
Again, I would be glad to be corrected about the above if someone knows differently.
I bumped into this issue while setting up a graceful hub shutdown when my the UPS' battery is about to fail. Hub shutsdown, then restarted, but dashboards stopped updating. Requires Fully browser
I was going to add that I use a kiosk browser to take care of this issue. The kiosk browser has it's own refresh that trump HE. I believe Fully Kiosk does as well for android.
But I gotta admit @arnb has a sexier solution I might have to steal it NR style
Thanks, but what does "NR style" mean?
Node-Red sorry, I do 99% of my automation there not in RM (easier on my small brain)
