New convert from ST with about 20 devices, mostly on Z-Wave. Still learning, had it up about a week. Got everything converted over with very few issues.
When I add a device to a dashboard, slow is an understatement. I add a tile, and selecting the device, it won't highlight. I can select the template, and it will highlight. If I go ahead and add the tile, it shows up with a question mark in the middle, like it can't talk to the device. Anywhere from a minute or two to 10 minutes later, it will show up. If I go to edit the tile, the device is now highlighted. I do have all of my devices in the dashboard as I don't really have any sensors only. This happens on brand new dashboards, or the one I have had for a week. The first time I add a device to a tile, it is slooow. If I create another tile with the same device, it is right there.
I have had similar issues in the past but I noticed it mostly with switch devices and templates. I would turn the switch off and get the hourglass. In my case it turned out to be zwave mesh issues. You said you had mostly zwave devices - do you have any zigbee devices and does it happen with them? If you do and they work fine it might make sense to explore the strength of your zwave mesh. (Prior experience with the same devices on ST may not be an indicator.) It might also make sense to see how responsive the devices are when used from the devices tab. If you have any that are on/off and they are very responsive from the devices tab but not the dashboard that could be something different.
Go to the devices tab, pick a device, and on those settings pages there are buttons for on. off, dim, etc. Do they work fast from there? Watch the "States" in the upper right corner while you control them from a dashboard AND the settings page buttons. The States should instantly follow commands.
If devices do not work correctly on those settings pages, or the states don't track correctly, they will never work properly in a dashboard. If they bomb out on the settings page, you probably have mesh issues, a faulty device, or maybe an incorrect driver (Device Type). If they work correctly on the settings page, you again might have a wrong driver, or there is something going on with your dashboard setup for some reason.
Also, are there any errors in the Logs tab? If you have logging turned on for a device, watch logs for anything odd or any errors.
What firmware is your hub on? Settings tab, Hub Details. Firmware 2.2.7.126 is the latest.
If you can narrow it down a bit, I am sure someone would be glad to walk you through some things to try.
I think the Z-Wave mesh is pretty good. The "Hubitat Z-Wave Mesh Details" app does show some low RSSI, but only on a few. And only errors on there were from one poorly placed outlet that was relocated.
Devices work well from devices tab and react within 1.0 seconds based on the state change indicator. This is even for one switch that is 4 hops and 140 feet from the hub.
So maybe I read this wrong, not sure now that I am reading it again. Maybe you can clarify which of the following is true:
When you go to turn a switch on or off from the dashboard, it is slow to operate. It "sticks" and doesn't update the status properly.
Only when adding a new dashboard tile, it is slow to add the new tile. It doesn't seem to add the tile properly, or gives unpredictable results.
Now I think that you are saying the second thing is true?
I have never seen the slow adding problem, but what I have noticed is that you need to sometimes go back and re-select a device after you select a template to use. Not sure if it isn't seeing me select it, maybe the window isn't focused properly to accept clicks, or it is some type of bug? Sometimes I even pick a template (Switch, for example) and go back and pick the specific device second.
The second is true, not the first. from the dashboard, things are fairly responsive, I don't think I have seen more than a second for something to turn on or off. It is only adding to the dashboard, the first time. If I add a second tile for the same device, it pops right up. You are correct, the device doesn't normally highlight, even for devices which otherwise properly setup a dashboard tile. However, when this occurs, it either finds the device I clicked on but didn't highlight, or if I go back and immediately edit the tile, it is selectable. For my problem, going back to edit the tile it won't allow me to highlight the device, or populate the tile correctly. It does allow me to select it sometime later - several minute later.
Other than this, I have not noticed any slow issues with the hub. It takes a second or two to switch to whatever tab I select, switching to a device, dashboard, etc.
It works for me, and as I have added almost everything to a dashboard, I probably won't have the issue. I wanted to make sure I hadn't set something up wrong, as I have been known to do, particularly if it impacts hub performance or reliability.
