Is there a way to make saved Dashboards open in full screen mode on an iPad, to maximize Dashboard viewing area?
I read at this article https://www.ispringsolutions.com/blog/how-to-make-a-website-full-screen-on-the-ipad that this could be accomplished by inserting in the source code. I know that under Dashboard/settings/Advanced/layout there is all this computerese there. Would simply adding it to this screen work?
A "View Source" on the Hubitat dashboard (only checked cloud, but I imagine local would be the same) shows that the line of code mentioned in that article is already in the Hubitat Dashboard code. Have you tried the rest of the steps the article mentions? That's what I've done for quick access to Dashboards without using the app (and before the app even existed), and does full screen fine for me.
If you go into the settings on your dashboard (gear on the top right), then go to Options, there's a field called "Column Width" (2nd row, 2nd column). If you remove the number there and leave it blank, regardless of if you're in portrait or landscape, the tiles will fill the entire screen

Actually, I was referring to the Safari browser being maximized, however, that tip does make the buttons fit the length of the screen regardless of what device I'm using, so very helpful! Thank you!
Of note, I did find that I can maximize Safari but touching on the URL bar and pushing upward. Helpful, but was still hoping for something that did it automatically.
As I mentioned above, this can be done by following the instructions in the article you linked to:
Viewing a Website in Full-Screen Mode on an iPad
- First, launch the Safari browser from the Home screen and go to the webpage that you wish to view in full-screen mode.
- After locating the webpage, tap the Share button at the top of your screen.
- In the drop-down menu, tap the Add to Home Screen option.
- In the Add to Home window, you can give the new icon a title on the home screen of your iPad. When youβre done, tap on the Add button.
- The new icon should now appear on your home screen. Tapping on the icon will open the webpage in full-screen mode.
Unless something has changed with iOS/iPadOS recently, I do not believe there is a way to do this from Safari directly without creating a link/icon like this.
Right, this part I got. It was the how to make it full (maximized) screen by tapping the resulting icon. What I wanted is for the gray bar at the top to start off minimized. Maybe there isn't a way to do it, but I thought I'd ask.
I'm not sure what "gray bar" you're referring to. When I follow the steps above, I get a web page that is 100% fullscreen, app-style, aside from the standard iOS status bar (date/time, wifi or cell signal strength, etc.).
ahhh, gotcha
have you tried using the mobile app instead of Safari to access the browser?
Yes, for my iPhone. But the idea is to repurpose all the old tablets in the house to be dashboard access points in different rooms. Hence my question. In retrospect, maybe it's not a big deal. The suggestion to let the dashboads auto-select width and height of the buttons was very helpful and makes it so I can now design my dashboards to work with any device in landscape orientation, within reason.
