With the C-8 Pro on sale, I've once again been debating buying one and replacing my aging C-7. The C-7 generally works OK, but I do have to do a hard power off/on every 1-2 months due to slowness.
I run a lot of applications, with the older Sensibo integration likely being the main cause of slowness. Additionally, I have a lot of older zigbee and zwave devices that I really don't want to replace, along with Lutron Pro integration with several Pico remotes. Some of the Zwave devices are in-wall relays and it would be a headache to have to manually re-add those to the hub if they won't migrate. I have around 160 devices on the hub if I remember correctly and I will likely evaluate all of them and trim that number down.
So my questions:
- I remember at one point, zwave in general (and older zwave devices specifically) had issues in the migration. Has this been resolved?
- As part of the migration process, would apps and custom drivers move?
- Finally, is there currently a reliable fallback for a failed migration?
Thanks!
All my apps and custom drivers moved over with no issues.
The reliable fallback I found in a failed migration was simply power off the new C8 and power back on the old C7. It will come back online and all the devices will connect to the C7 radio. I had to do this many times as it turns your the platform version I attempted migration had a bug that prevent the Zwave radio details from migrating.

Thanks!
If I may ask a couple of other questions:
- Did you have a lot of older (especially zwave) devices and if so, did they move OK?
- Is the migration process pretty quick or am I looking at hours of troubleshooting?
βOldβ is relative, I honestly donβt know out of the couple dozen Zwave which are considered βoldβ unless anyone has a list of specific examples I could compare.
Once I was on a fixed version, migration process was fast and painless. Complete a migration ready cloud backup (1 min), power down the C7 and power up the C8 (1-2 mins), start the new device setup on the C8 and then import from backup (3-5 mins). Verify all your devices, apps, drivers, and the details on both Zigbee and Zwave radios look good, and you are set!

AFAIK, the migration process these days is pretty well worked out... Just be sure to carefully follow all steps here in the Documentation - I'd encourage you to read through everything here ahead of time instead of just diving in head-first.

I don't think this was ever a thing (though there were occasionally identified and fixed problems with Z-Wave in general under very specific circumstances on each hub, not related to specific devices). Providing a link to previous discussions would be helpful.
I'm going off recollection from a couple of years back. I might not be remembering all the details correctly and the zwave issues I've seen reported recently seem to have been fixed.
My advice would to make sure you have good cloud and offline backups, then proceed (after reading through the detailed migration instructions).
There is little or no risk, you can always flip back to the C7 and try again later.
