I created a group of lights to be used for all our accent lighting.
Creating the group went fine and I created a virtual switch to be used in a simple lighting rule. All works fine.
Question:
When created, the Group somehow ended up as a Type Alexa Dimmer. I do not have the Alexa app installed. What is the significance of being of type "Alexa dimmer" and more important, how does the type impact the use of the group.
Alexa Dimmer is simply a virtual dimmer, and would be the means by which Echo could control the group. It's name is simply an artifact of its development history. The virtual dimmer can be used in any context that any other dimmer can be used, and it is not tied in any way to Echo. So don't let the name of the device type cause you any concern.
